A star is on the rise in Sugar Land and her vocal talents have recently taken her to the top of one of the country’s major music industry charts.
Weeks after the independent release of her debut CD, “Heart of a Star,” 15-year-old Lauren Ashley of Sugar Land, has made her way onto the Northern American Billboard charts with the release of “Ambulance,” one of the CD’s singles.
Not only did the young singer make it on the Hot R&B and Hip Hop singles charts at No. 4, sales of the single topped sales of Beyonce’s single “Halo” for the week of May 2.
The single also came in No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Singles sales chart for the week.
The Sugar Land singer and her parents, Vincent and Belinda Redmond, along with the CD’s producer were amazed and excited at the single’s sudden success.
“I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs to see,” Ashley said on learning the news.
“I was really surprised because we were only aiming to be in the top 50.”
Music producer, Isaac Yowman, known as Yung Chill, has worked with music artists such as Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne and Yung Joc, and began working with the Sugar Land singer last summer.
The veteran producer shared his thoughts on the single’s success.
“Billboard is major period, especially when you're beating out pop stars like Beyonce,” Yung Chill said of the single’s amazing feat.
“And to add fuel to the situation, this is all happening independently with no major record label backing. So let the bidding wars begin, because Lauren Ashley's voice and personality at her age screams ‘Star,’” the music producer said.
Yung Chill began working with Ashley after hearing her sing in the 2008 Sugar Land Superstar Competition.
Impressed with her vocal performance and strong delivery, he approached her parents and soon after began working with the young artist to produce her first CD.
In support of their daughter’s musical aspirations, The Redmonds also launched their own independent record company, Elite Entertainment, to manage their daughter’s career.
“Our family is delighted and encouraged by this dramatic change of events. Hopefully, Lauren is truly on the path to meet, achieve and surpass her goals and aspirations for herself as well as ours as her proud parents,” the singer’s father said.
The Sugar Land singer is flattered by comparisons to pop music stars ranging from Rihanna to Beyonce and hopes to create her own niche in the music industry.
A featured artist on a current FYE Music Store Tour, Ashley recently returned from Atlanta last weekend where she signed autographs and promoted her new CD.
Upcoming local appearances include performances at Northshore High School in Houston and Teen Night at Club Hush.
The singer’s Billboard-ranked single, “Ambulance” has resulted in increased requests for the single and the CD on the singer’s website, according to her parents.
The single is currently available at several locations, including Music Depot in Greenspoint Mall, all FYE Stores, Serious Sounds at 610 and MLK, ITUNES, Napster, Rhapsody.com and Amazon.com.

On November 14th, 1993 in Dallas,Texas, Vincent and Belinda Redmond gave birth to their first child, a little girl they named Lauren-Ashley Redmond. In 1996, by the time Lauren-Ashley was 3yrs. old the Redmond family moved to the Houston area where they now reside. The family at this time did not know that this little girl, would, by the age of 14, demonstrate vocal abilities not heard since the discovery of Whitney Houston.
Visually, Lauren-Ashley is an absolute stunning natural beauty, demonstrating the perfect look, talent, and style not only as a recording industry artist but also for movies, and television appearances. Her attributes do not stop short of her visual presence. As it relates to recording industry performance credits, Lauren- Ashley has performed across all genres captivating audiences in the Pop, Rhythm and Blues, Country, Contemporary Gospel, and Broadway Musical categories.
Lauren-Ashley began her vocal instruction at the age of 9 through One True Voice under the vocal instructor Charles Dotson, and also studied under the Banbury School of voice with Kent Banbury.
