Lauren Austin is a beautiful combination of Americana, Country, and Folk music that showcases a beautiful voice, rich arrangements, and thoughtful lyrics. She is an artist that focuses on a classic sound, modern sensibilities, and an individual touch to produce smart, original, music.

Biography

Originally from Colorado, Lauren Austin has combined the country music of her early years, her roots-rock instincts honed in Los Angeles, and the best of her current residency in Nashville to create an authentic blend of Americana music.

Segueing from a formal musical education and early songwriting, an open mic in Los Angeles would open the door to a musical partnership with Emmy nominated Jeremiah Sammartano (Jeremiah and the Red Eyes) and her live music career. The nationwide touring that followed solidified her sturdy voice and seasoned her prowess on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and harmonica.

Her self-produced and financed 2009 debut CD "Soul Confetti" garnered critical acclaim from Americana taste-makers and displayed a great collection of songs and musicians. In addition to Jeremiah Sammartano, William Ellis (Montgomery Gentry), Johnny d’Artenay (Wanda Jackson), Dan Hocchalter (Gretchen Wilson), and Joey Crawford (Allison Krauss), among others contributed to the project. The album has received considerable airplay on various satellite, public, and online Country and Americana stations.

Currently she is writing and recording her much anticipated follow up to "Soul Confetti" with an expected Spring 2012 release. She continues to play live and plans to tour throughout the country.

Leaving Los Angeles

Written By: Lauren Austin

A LITTLE BIT DRUNK ON SUNDAY
LAST NIGHT’S WINE TO FACE THE COMING DAY
THIS MORNING THAT CALIFORNIA SUN
WASHED ACROSS THE BED WHERE WE MADE LOVE

BUT I’M LEAVING LOS ANGELES
YOU AND I BOTH KNOW I DON’T BELONG
STILL I WISH I COULD KEEP US
EVEN AS I LEAVE LOS ANGELES

WATUSI RODEO
THE LAST BIT OF COUNTRY ON THE RADIO
WE SAY IT WILL, BUT WE KNOW IT WON’T
EVER BE THE SAME AS THIS MOMENT

SO I’M LEAVING LOS ANGELES
YOU AND I BOTH KNOW I DON’T BELONG
STILL I WISH I COULD KEEP US
EVEN AS I LEAVE LOS ANGELES

WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR HOUSE ON THE HILL
I HOPE THAT YOU’LL THINK OF ME STILL
AND THE DAYS WHEN WE HAD NOTHING
JUST CRAZY DREAMS AND CRAZIER LOVE

I’M LEAVING LOS ANGELES
I’M LEAVING US
I’M LEAVING ‘CAUSE I MISS ME
BUT LOS ANGELES WILL ALWAYS REMIND ME

DOWN AN OLD GRAVEL ROAD I DRIVE
PAST WHERE THE CITY LIGHTS SHINE
TO YOU, TO YOU

LIKE THE ROAD BELOW THE PATH IS SLOW TO YOU,
BUT YOU NEED ME, SAY YOU DON’T WELL I KNOW IT’S A LIE
CAUSE YOU KNOW THAT I CAN RESCUE THE MAN INSIDE

I’D NEVER TRY TO CAGE YOU IN
IN FACT, I’M JUST TRYING
TO SET YOU FREE AGAIN

TWENTY-FOUR AND YOU WANT SO MUCH MORE FROM LIFE
CAN’T BREAK AWAY FROM THE DESTINY DECIDED
FOR YOU, FOR YOU

YOU PRAY FOR LOVE TO SLAP YOU IN THE FACE
BUT HEY FRIEND, DON’T YOU KNOW
THAT MIRACLES NEED TIME

I’D NEVER TRY TO HOLD YOU BACK
CAUSE I SEE THE BEAUTY AND ALL YOU COULD BE
ALL YOU SHOULD BE

Other Side of Hurt

Written By: Lauren Austin

I RECOGNIZE YOU FROM PHOTOGRAPHS
I’VE NEVER MET YOU, NEVER WANTED TO
BUT PLEASE SIT DOWN, LET ME BUY YOU A DRINK
‘CAUSE WE’VE KNOWN EACH OTHER LONGER THAN YOU THINK

I WISH THAT I COULD GIVE
WHAT IT IS YOU GIVE TO HIM
INSTEAD OF LIVING AS HALF OF HIS WHOLE
INSTEAD OF LOVING A MAN I’LL NEVER FULLY HOLD
HE WANDERS BACK AND FORTH
TO YOU AND I, AND THE OTHER SIDE OF HURT

HE’S MENTIONED YOUR NAME A TIME OR TWO
I’VE PRAYED IT WAS A PHASE HE WAS GOING THROUGH
THAT IN TIME HE’D COME TO HIS GOOD SENSE
BUT HERE WE ARE, AND HE STRADDLES THE FENCE

SO I WISH THAT I COULD GIVE
WHAT IT IS YOU GIVE TO HIM
INSTEAD OF LIVING AS HALF OF HIS WHOLE
INSTEAD OF LOVING A MAN I’LL NEVER FULLY HOLD
HE WANDERS BACK AND FORTH
TO YOU AND I, AND THE OTHER SIDE OF HURT
IT’S YOU AND I, ON EITHER SIDE OF HURT

Just As Easily Me

Written By: Lauren Austin

IT COULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS EASILY ME
I COULD HAVE BEEN AT THE WHEEL
ONE DRINK TOO MANY, FALLING ASLEEP
IT COULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS EASILY ME

A TELEPHONE FIGHT EARLY IN THE NIGHT
HE KNEW SHE WAS WRONG, SHE KNEW SHE WAS RIGHT
ONE DRINK TOO MANY, HE DECIDED TO DRIVE
IT COULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS EASILY ME

ON A WINDING ROAD, TWO EIGHTY SEVEN
DENVER TO LARAMIE, HALF PAST ELEVEN
EIGHT IN A VAN HEADED BACK TO WYOMING
IN THE DARK OF THE NIGHT, THEY NEVER SAW HIM COMING

IT COULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS EASILY ME
WHO CROSSED THE LINE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD
ONE DRINK TOO MANY, FALLING ASLEEP
IT COULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS EASILY ME

WINDING ROAD, TWO EIGHTY SEVEN
GOD’S PLACE ON EARTH, GATEWAY TO HEAVEN
THE EIGHT IN THE VAN HAVE ALL GONE HOME
HE’S LYING IN A CELL, LYING ALL ALONE

HIGHWAY PATROL MISSED THE WINE ON MY TONGUE
I WAS FIRST TO PASS AND DIAL 911
TEN MINUTES SOONER, ONE LESS DRINK
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS EASILY ME

Black and White Rainbow

Written By: Lauren Austin

I DIDN’T MEAN TO FIND YOU
YOU DIDN’T NEED TO SEE
THE TRUTH BURIED INSIDE YOU
THE SOMETHING MISSING

A CHILD I KEPT ON RUNNING
WINGS AGAINST THE WIND
UNTIL I WAS BESIDE YOU
WANTING TO COME IN

BUT I DIDN’T MEAN TO FIND YOU
YOU DIDN’T NEED TO SEE
THE TRUTH BURIED INSIDE YOU
THE ONE INSIDE OF ME

A BLACK AND WHITE RAINBOW
LED ME TO YOUR DOOR
WHERE WE STAND ON EITHER SIDE
WANTING SOMETHING MORE

SO MAYBE, MAYBE I SHOULD GO
‘CAUSE BABY, WE’RE BOUND TO OVERFLOW
AND SOMEHOW I’M SORRY
BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT FOR

‘CAUSE I DIDN’T MEAN TO FIND YOU
I REALLY DIDN’T TO
AND NOW I AM BESIDE YOU
NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO

Framed

Written By: Lauren Austin

I KNEW, I KNEW
YOU WAS NO GOOD
YOU USED ME, YOU USED ME
LIKE I KNEW YOU WOULD

A LIAR AND A CHEAT
ARE YOU LOSING ANY SLEEP OVER ME

YOU DRUG ME ‘ROUND, ALL OVER TOWN
FOR THE WORLD TO SEE
NO WEDDING BAND, YOU MADE A DAMN
FOOL OF ME

A LIAR AND A CHEAT
ARE YOU LOSING ANY SLEEP OVER ME

IT’S A TORTURED, TANGLED, LOVE-DRUNK CRIME
TO STEAL ONE HEART, AND LEAVE ONE BLIND
ON ME THEY TRIED TO PIN THE BLAME
BUT IT’S BACK TO YOU, ‘CAUSE I’VE BEEN FRAMED

YOU MIGHT AS WELL, MIGHT AS WELL
BEEN A HURRICANE
YOU SWEPT ME UP, SPUN ME ‘ROUND
MUDDIED UP MY NAME

A LIAR AND A CHEAT
ARE YOU LOSING ANY SLEEP OVER ME

IT’S A TORTURED, TANGLED, LOVE-DRUNK CRIME
TO STEAL ONE HEART, AND LEAVE ONE BLIND
ON ME THEY TRIED TO PIN THE BLAME
BUT IT’S BACK TO YOU, ‘CAUSE I’VE BEEN FRAMED

I KNEW, I KNEW
YOU WAS NO GOOD
I KNEW, I KNEW
YOU WAS NO GOOD

Hey Mama

Written By: Lauren Austin

DANCING CIRCLES IN THE WIND
THE FALLEN LEAF FLIES AGAIN
FLOATING ON THE AUTUMN AIR
GRACEFUL AS FRED ASTAIRE

FIRE RED, A BIT TOO SOON
NOT LIKE THE OTHERS
BUT JUST LIKE YOU

SO MAMA, WHAT DO I DO?
I’VE GROWN UP TO
LOOK A LOT LIKE YOU
NEVER KNEW THAT THERE WERE LINES
THAT I SHOULD WALK BETWEEN
‘TILL SOMEONE TOLD ME TO
SO MAMA, WHAT DO I DO?

OFF THE WHITE SHORES OF PUERTO RICO
IRIDESCENT FISH GLOW
A BEAUTIFUL BALLET BY NIGHT
DANCING IN STARLIGHT
TO SOME IT’S STRANGE, UNUSUAL
NOT LIKE THE OTHERS
BUT BEAUTIFUL

SO MAMA, WHAT DO I DO?
I’VE GROWN UP TO
LOOK A LOT LIKE YOU
NEVER KNEW THAT THERE WERE LINES
THAT I SHOULD WALK BETWEEN
‘TILL SOMEONE TOLD ME TO
SO MAMA, WHAT DO I DO?

HEY MAMA, WHAT DO I DO?
I WISH I WAS MORE
MORE LIKE YOU
THE LIGHT IN EVERY ROOM
THE SMILE THAT SEES YOU THROUGH
WHEN SMILE, YOU OUGHTN’T TO
SO MAMA, WHAT DO I DO?

Goodbye Lullaby

Written By: Lauren Austin

BABY, CLOSE YOUR EYES
WHILE I SING THIS LULLABY
THOUGH YOU CAN’T HEAR ME
THE WORDS WERE ALWAYS THERE

DARLING REST YOUR HEAD
SWEET DREAMS ON OUR BED
IN THE SILENCE YOU’LL HEAR
THE WORDS THAT WERE ALWAYS THERE

I NEVER CHANGED THE QUESTION
ONLY THE REASONS WHY
YOU NEVER ANSWERED
THE CRY IN MY LULLABY

SWEETHEART I MISS YOU SO
IT’S BEEN THAT WAY FOR A WHILE THOUGH
EVEN SIDE BY SIDE
THE DISTANCE LEFT ME NUMB INSIDE

ALL I REALLY WANTED
WAS TO FEEL LIKE YOUR BEST FRIEND
WITH OPEN ARMS I KEPT GIVING
UNTIL IT HAD ALL BEEN GIVEN

A WELL YOU RAN DRY
WITH THOUSANDS OF QUARTERS OF WISHES INSIDE

GOODBYE, GOODNIGHT ROCK-A-BYE LULLABY
GOODNIGHT, GOODBYE LULL-LU-LU-LU-BY,
BYE BYE

More Than I Know

Written By: Lauren Austin

MAYBE ALL WE KNOW
IS WHAT WE BELIEVE
A TRUTH AND A FALSE
A SPACE IN BETWEEN

MAYBE IT’S THERE
WE FIND OURSELVES
THE FACE IN THE MIRROR
IS SOMEBODY ELSE

I LIVE, I GIVE
I HOPE THERE’S MORE THAN I KNOW

SO I START MY ROAD ALONE
INTO THE UNKNOWN
AND ONLY TRUST MY HEART
TO FIND MY WAY HOME

THE MILES YET TO COME
MAY BLISTER MY FEET
BUT I BETTER GET A GOING
BETTER GET TO BEING ME

I LIVE, I GIVE
I HOPE THERE’S MORE THAN I KNOW
