"Review Excerpts"

“Sultry, innocent, fragile but focused. Her debut album ‘Soul Confetti’ made me wonder if this is what Pam Tillis may have sounded like if she had honed her craft in the city of Lauren’s namesake instead of on Music Row.” -Buzz Brainard, WSIX Host (Nashville), and “The Highway” Host (Sirius XM)

“Vulnerable and heartbreaking, texture and atmosphere, all wrapped up by straining strings perfectly complimented by the drone of an acoustic guitar. Austin abandons the ‘expected’ and embraces the uncomfortable… a sound you’re begging to hear more of...” -Brad Wilson, Coordinator of College Radio, BMI, and former WRVU Host (Nashville)

“With her achingly lovely voice and lyrics that are startling and honest, ‘Soul Confetti’ is the perfect title for Lauren Austin's debut album... reminiscent of Matraca Berg, but there's also something that reminds me of artists like Stephanie Chapman, Angela Easterling, maybe even a little Gretchen Peters…” -Vicki Pepper, “Altville” Executive Producer (www.altville.com)

"Evoking the Western Ballads of Old Cowboys"

The album’s opener “Leaving Los Angeles” feels like an old Western ballad complete with ahhs that recall the old cowboys that once backed Marty Robbins. “Wyoming Mood” brings to mind the best of mid 90s country while “More Than I Know” slows it down for a time of reflection that could easily find its way on to a Lilith Fair stage or a montage from Dawson’s Creek. The musicianship on Confetti is solid throughout as Austin brings in some great players to back her up. The guitar riffs on “24” really stand out and “Framed” would sound right at home blasting from the bars on Broadway... She sounds the fullest and most natural when she sings lower in her vocal range and with sparser instrumentation as can be found on the stellar “Other Side of Hurt” and the album highlight “Black and White Rainbow”. Vulnerable and heartbreaking, texture and atmosphere, all wrapped up by straining strings perfectly complimented by the drone of an acoustic guitar. It’s only when Austin abandons the “expected” and embraces the uncomfortable, that she finds out who she really is. The song acts as the black sheep of the record but a sound you’re begging to hear more of...

Overall Soul Confetti is a striking debut with limitless potential that leaves you feeling she’s just scratching the surface of who she could be. If Austin throws out the rulebook and continues to carve out more of her own sound, she’ll find out that fitting in in Nashville is overrated.

"Riding Shotgun"

Lauren Austin leads us on a poetically organic journey, gently dropping pieces of herself across the map of her experiences. Sultry, innocent, fragile but focused. I loved riding shotgun and was comforted by the fact that there was a strong, experienced woman behind the wheel. Oh, and… the scenery’s nice too.

Soul Confetti made me wonder if this is what Pam Tillis may have sounded like if she had honed her craft in the city of Lauren’s namesake instead of on Music Row.

- Buzz Brainard, Altville

""Soul Confetti" Makes Colorful Debut"

With her achingly lovely voice and lyrics that are startling honest, 'Soul Confetti' is the perfect title for Lauren Austin's debut album... reminiscent of Matraca Berg, but also something that reminds me of artists like Stephanie Chapman, Angela Easterling, maybe even a little Gretchen Peters…

Bio

Originally from Colorado, Lauren Austin has combined the country music of her early years, her roots-rock instincts honed in Los Angeles, and the best of her current residency in Nashville to create an authentic blend of Americana music.

Segueing from a formal musical education and early songwriting, an open mic in Los Angeles would open the door to a musical partnership with Emmy nominated Jeremiah Sammartano (Jeremiah and the Red Eyes) and her live music career. The nationwide touring that followed solidified her sturdy voice and seasoned her prowess on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and harmonica.

Her self-produced and financed 2009 debut CD "Soul Confetti" garnered critical acclaim from Americana taste-makers and displayed a great collection of songs and musicians. In addition to Jeremiah Sammartano, William Ellis (Montgomery Gentry), Johnny d’Artenay (Wanda Jackson), Dan Hocchalter (Gretchen Wilson), and Joey Crawford (Allison Krauss), among others contributed to the project. The album has received considerable airplay on various satellite, public, and online Country and Americana stations.

Currently she is writing and recording her much anticipated follow up to "Soul Confetti" with an expected Spring 2012 release. She continues to play live and plans to tour throughout the country.
