Lyrics

Bottle of Wine

Written By: Lauren Busheikin

You poured me a glass of some cabernet
Ten dollars from the liquor store across the way
I parted my lips and took a sip
You parted yours and started on our memory trip

Back to cherry-topped sundaes on that summer day
You were just about to leave but I begged you to stay
Five minutes to make, five minutes gone
Five years later and the flavour lingers on

Chorus:
Here we sit with a bottle of wine
Reminiscing as if we let the tapes rewind
Not a moment spent second guessing our choices
As the memories play to the sound of our voices

Remember that December day we planned to go out
But it was way too cold for us to even leave the house
So we dreamed of breezy beaches lying on your bed
And let the winter weather wither within our heads

'Cause all those times we talked of traveling to somewhere sunny
Never went anywhere 'cause we had no money
And as the honeymoon is coming soon I think it's funny
That I'll never get to see you in trunks.

(Chorus)

I met your mom and dad when I had such a fever
I shivered when I shook their hands they thought I was either
About to lose my cool or perhaps I was a junkie
But despite that, and even to this day, they still love me

I still think about all those fights we had
About something small but they got so bad
Until we made up just by talking
And we stayed up all night walking

Through the reasons that the two of us should stay together
And the things to do to make it through the nasty weather
But you and I always knew the truth
That you were never meant for me and I'm not meant for you

(Chorus)

Even though you told me I was free to crash on the couch
I think it's better if I head 'er 'fore the sun comes out
The bottle is empty and my throat is dry
And there's not much left to say about "You and I"

So goodbye to "You and I" 'cause now it's "Us" and "Them"
Our lives are moving forward and we can't pretend
We'll have time for each other like we did back then
But we can still make time for nights like this again

You know this meeting was to celebrate the end of a chapter
And to mark the start of one happily-ever-after
For the other what the future holds we just can't tell
But if we knew, would we go through with it? It's just as well

(Chorus)

I can tell you're tired by the way you're blinking your eyes
I think it's time for us to hug and say our goodbyes
This meeting was to celebrate the end of a chapter
And to mark the start of one happily-ever-after

My Ego

Written By: Lauren Busheikin

Maybe it's my ego getting the best of me
Or maybe I'm your hero and you just refuse to believe
That I'm the best thing for you since pre-sliced cheese was to the grill
Or that I'm the best thing for you since an automatic was to the kill
Or maybe it's my ego getting the best of me

Me, The Fool

Written By: Lauren Busheikin

When I found out how you took me for the fool
I chose to play into the way that you think
I put my hair up, I wore my make-up
And I sang a song with a smile and a wink
You always took me out on those fancy dates
Drinking a hundred dollars down every time
I didn't know then that all of your dough then
Was funded by your double-dealing white collar crime

My life of luxury was worth the cost of all the friends I lost
They couldn't take the way I'd changed
All their stares and glares couldn't phase me because they failed to see
The careful plan that I'd arranged

Chorus
Though I suffered every time I took the looks
As you and your association cooked the books
Not that I ever thought that our love would fail
Now it seems that I've got the means to send you straight to jail

You'd send me out to buy myself pretty things
Tell me to get something real sexy to wear
You only wanted me to parade me and flaunt me
So you and your boys could sit around and just stare
Then when the years went by you started to fade
How could I measure to your nickels and dimes?
To all of your boys and all of your toys
And to the younger girls with whom you spent all your time?

So go ahead and talk your fancy talk to all your business flock
The ones who studied hard in school
I'll just sit here, yeah, they don't notice me 'cause I don't know a thing
I'll play the part as me, the fool

Chorus
Though I suffered every time I took the looks
As you and your association cooked the books
Not that I ever thought that our love would fail
Now it seems that I've got the means to send you straight to jail

Now you say you wanna leave, well, baby that's alright with me
I'll send you off with open arms: the cash, the kids, the cars, the keys, please
That sad desperation in your eyes ain't gonna make me change my mind
Let me spell it out for you one last time
You pay or I talk, I stay and you walk. You got caught the life you bought is gone
Don't you dare tell me I've got some nerve, this is the very least you deserve

Chorus
'Cause I suffered every time I took the looks
As you and your association cooked the books
Not that I ever thought that our love would fail
Now it seems that I've got the means to send you straight to jail

'Cause you broke my heart when you played me time and time
It's fair that your lifetime savings are finally mine
And it's all because you assumed I was too dense to see the truth
But that's what you'll get any time you're gonna mess with me, the fool

We Love

Written By: Lauren Busheikin

When I returned from traveling and met up with my packs
You called to say you couldn't come but you would pitch in for a cab
Secretly hoping I'd reject your generosity
But I was so broke and overspent I happily agreed

Got back to our apartment and could tell that I'd been gone
Dishes piled miles high and the TV'd been left on
Picked up your sweater and the smell of you sent me in a spin
I paced the floor and waited for you to walk on in

'Cause we love, we sleep
We work, we eat
We kiss, we stare

When you returned from doing whatever it is you do
We hugged and we kissed you said "I missed you"; I said that I missed you too
Then I rambled on about all the great things I got to see
Until you decided you were bored and turned on the TV

Sometimes I picture packing up and walking out the door
Scrambling to find a place to live where I can scrape my heart up off the floor
Sometimes I wonder, what am I to you?
'Cause you're just a boy that I can call when there's nothing else to do

But we love, we sleep
We work, we eat
We kiss, we stare
We hang onto what is no longer there

We say "baby" 'cause there's nothing left to say
We say "baby" 'cause there's nothing left to say

We love, we sleep
We work, we eat
We kiss, we stare
We hang onto what is no longer there
