Bio

Lauren Elder is a singer-songwriter, whistler and actress living between New York City and Southern California. She blends the sweet sounds of the ukulele with influences of folk, jazz and pop to create her unique, whimsical sound, which she then records in her closet, huddled between her vintage dresses.

Lauren has been a performer as long as she can remember. After a short stint as a child model, she fell in love with musical theater. This was also around the time her father, Lee, taught her how to whistle. She went on to study at The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (L.A.), and Circle in the Square (NY). She fine tuned her craft and was soon cast in the Public Theater's production of Hair in Central Park. She stayed with the show as it went on to Broadway and London's West End. Searching for a creative outlet once her time with Hair was done, Lauren picked up the ukulele she had purchased previously for an audition and started to teach herself to play. Drawing from her love of folk and jazz, the songs came pouring out and within three months, she had written ten songs. Six months later she played her first live show of original music, and has not stopped playing live since, gaining a strong following in her area, and then starting to play some of NYC's most famous venues, such as The Living Room and Joe's Pub. Lauren also appeared in the third season of HBO's Boardwalk Empire and has performed at numerous jazz clubs around New York City, including Birdland and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
