"CD Review"

«…this music seems like a viable definition for «world music», by seamlessly combining the traditions and harmonies of traditional Klezmer and Yiddish melodies with the rythms and ideas of the rest of the world.»
- Sophia Perlman – The Wholenote Magazine - July 1 2005

"Studio Trumps Study Hall"

«While all the performances are passionate and arresting, the deeply melodic, traditional-sounding repertoire seems an unusual way to interest a pop-punk guitarist. Yet Jeff Stinco of Simple Plan chose Posner as one of the launch artists on his new label, Milagro.» - Bernard Perusse – The Gazette – March 31 2005

"Montrealer's Debut CD Generating Buzz And Airplay"

«As she prepares for upcomming performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Quebec Summer Festival on July 8 and 9 respectively, Montreal-area singer-songwriter Lauren Posner looks back at what she describes as a fortuitous series of coïncidences that led to the release of her debut CD Lauren Posner three months ago and the start of an unplanned musical career.» - Bill Gladstone - The Canadian Jewish News - June 30 2005

Bio

Many of the songs of this first album come from my upbringing. I was raised in the Jewish communities of both Toronto, Ontario and Rockville, Maryland, where I inherited the rich musical traditions of Eastern Europe in Yiddish and modern Israel in Hebrew. It is from this music that I draw a deep spiritual connection.

I sang occasionally as a young adult in the cafes and bars of Montreal and my native Toronto, but these performing experiences were limited to an occasional hobby that followed alongside an academic career. After completing an undergraduate degree at McGill in 1997, I later returned to Montreal from Toronto in 2000 to do graduate work in the field of human rights. There was a special energy about this city that called me back.

I loved the soul of Montreal’s Mile End, where I lived a lax graduate-student life and enjoyed French-language classes at the Commission Scolaire de Montreal. It was through a French professor there that I was connected to my bassist and partner composer, Igor Bartula, who was already active in the Montreal music scene. Together, we collaborated to write world-beat music in English and French, and to create new arrangements for the Jewish music that was in my bones. The project developed gradually and eventually, with six other very talented Montreal musicians, the debut album was recorded at Voxtone Records, under the Disques Milagro label.
