ANNIE OF THE NIGHT

Written By: Laurie H. Wells

Annie of the Night

VERSE:
She dreams when the world is dark,
With open eyes each night,
She cruises o’re the cityscapes,
A colored world of sight.

VERSE:
And as she flies above her pain,
And earthly limits lost,
She soars into the stratosphere,
Within the air, she’s “boss” .

CHORUS
Annie of the night,
Lets her soul take flight.
Annie IS the night,
As the day unfolds.

VERSE
She’s a soulful survivor,
Of events not her fault.
It’s no wonder she takes flight,
With some added “gestalt.”

VERSE
As the night ebbs to daylight,
She comes back to her room,
As she touches her daughter,
Without fear, without doom.

CHORUS II
For Annie’s of the night,
Let’s her soul take flight.
Once into the air,
There’s no staying home for long.

VERSE:
She has broken the cycle,
Those before her had done,
She has planted her roots here,
There is no need to run.

VERSE
When your life has no exit,
And you think you will scream,
Just go air-borne like Annie,
And start living your dream.

Repeat CHORUS II

BEAUTY

Written By: Laurie H Wells

BEAUTY

CHORUS:

Beauty is an unselfish act, done because it’s right.
Beauty is the light from the moon on your face at night.
Beauty is the act of loving you,
Beauty are the things you do.

VERSE:
It’s a tale as old as the man in the Sea,
Of Beauty and Beast and how they’re meant to be,
Together in love, and a marvel to all,
They wondered of Beauty, just how did she fall?

VERSE:
For Beauty saw in the deepest of hearts,
A person more grand than the sum of his parts,
And as she looked at what others abhorred,
Her notice of scars was completely ignored.

REPEAT CHORUS

VERSE:
And as over time, the Beauty may fade,
The Beasts love endured and stayed just the same.
For Beauty is “always” and never undone,
The heart kissed by kindness, Beauty’s victory is won.

SOFT SPOT

Written By: Laurie H Wells

SOFT SPOT

CHORUS:

You found my Soft spot, baby,
When I was “out to lunch”,
You found a way right in,
You played the winning hunch.

Verse 1
I wasn’t really “looking”,
And my guard was let down.
When the back door was open,
It’s the soft spot you found.

Verse 2
When my heart went “walkin”
On a path right to you,
All my steps were au-to-ma-tic,
And I knew just what to do.

Verse 3
Never thought that I’d show you,
My resistance was so low,
But your sweet way of “talking”
Really stole away the show.

REPEAT CHORUS I

BREAKOUT VERSE:

Soft Spot takes me there,
Caress it with care,
Love me, if you dare.

I JUST CARE ABOUT LOVE

Written By: Laurie H Wells

Verse 1
I don’t care about your race,
Or the lines upon your face,
Or the practice of your faith,
I just care about love.

Verse 2
I don’t care if you’re so tall,
If your hands are way too small,
Or the rise before the fall,
I just care about love.

Verse 3
For I wished upon a star,
So alone from oh so far,
Didn’t know just who you are,
I just cared to be loved.

Verse 4
I don’t care about the past,
If you’re slow or if you’re fast,
I just want our love to last,
And to know that I am loved.

Verse 5
I don’t care what others say,
If I have to move away,
I just hope with me you’ll stay,
I just care about our love.

CHORUS:

Be careful what you wish for,
Someday it may come true,
And love will come to nest upon,
The person next to you.

ISADORA

Written By: Laurie H Wells

ISADORA

CHORUS:
Isadora, have you lost your mind ?
Follow the breadcrumbs home and find,
My love and shelter wait for you,
I’ll change your skies from grey to blue.

VERSE 1
I watch you from afar,
The gentle moves you take,
A dancer on a wooden floor,
With history here to make.

VERSE 2
You’ve danced across the continent,
With barefoot Russian glee,
And I who sit with letters of,
Your travels next to me.

VERSE 3
And if I could I’d tie a scarf,
Around your lovely arms,
And pluck you from the worlds allure,
And shelter you from harm.

VERSE 4
But you insist on living life,
As winds that travel west,
Not staying in one place for long,
Forgetting what is best.

VERSE 5
And when you’re left with dust and stain,
Of all those memories,
Fly back to home, I’ll wait for you,
Among the willow trees.

OUT OF TIME

Written By: Laurie H. Wells

CHORUS:

Do you really know that feeling ?
When you think you’re out of time,
When you know you’ve lost your step,
When you’re on your last dime?

Verse 1
I know you know that feeling,
When the one you love’s no more,
When you think you’re barely breathing,
Wondering what a heart is for ?

Verse 2
And I wish I knew that feeling,
That said things will be alright,
That my vision will clear up ,
That I’ll get my second sight.

Verse 3
So for now I’ll dream of feeling,
When your kiss was mine to adore,
And the days were long with summer,
And I wished for nothing more.

Breakout verse:
It feels like I’m out of my mind,

I wish you were still mine,

But I think I’m out of time.

RIO

Written By: Laurie H Wells

VERSE:
You have a way of knowing,
Of just what I adore,
But sometimes baby,
I want a little more.

VERSE:
Don’t get me wrong and panic now,
Just listen to my plea,
It’s time to mix it up my dear,
And head off for the sea.

CHORUS:

Let’s go to Rio,
Where the samba life is made,
Let’s go to Rio,
It’s no time to be afraid.
Let’s go to Rio,
We can dance the night away,
Let’s go to Rio,
We’ll be there in a day.

VERSE
So pack up all your bags my love,
And give the bird away,
We’ll turn into a travel ad,
And do just what they say.

VERSE
We’ll lounge upon the golden sand,
We’ll sing and dance all night,
We’ll visit all the ruins too,
And see the city sights.

Repeat CHORUS

VERSE:
I want you there in Rio,
It’s a place where we can play,
I’ll never give up my passport,
But I’m thinking we might stay !

Repeat CHORUS

LIFE AS ART

Written By: Laurie H. Wells

VERSE:
I know I sometimes put the horse before the cart,
I know I fell for your smile- from the very start.
It was when you looked at her that I began to see,
You really had no interest in being here with me.

CHORUS:
You’re a superficial shadow of a dream that I once had,
You’re a health avoidance issue- like a food source that is bad.
You're a virus that is morphing into one that jumps the line,
A pandemic in the making, what made me think that you were mine?

VERSE:
You dress up your intentions with glitter and some glue,
The mirrors are put in place just to hide just what you do.
You have chosen all your subjects and the lighting is just right,
You’ve disguised the path you’ve made- just before your love takes flight.

REPEAT CHORUS

VERSE:
You’ve picked your colors carefully with every shade in mind,
Distractions are your tools of trade to keep your viewers blind.
You leave a path of destruction and a line of broken hearts,
I’d never guessed your talent is to make desertion an art.

REPEAT CHORUS

Thanks to Annie Ferguson for the line: “Desertion as an art” from: Takin’ Up Space in My Heart” 1966.

FALL INTO LOVE

Written By: Laurie H. Wells

VERSE
How can I help you?
When you don’t want help?
How can I save you?
When you don’t want salvation?

REFRAIN
Throw a man a raft when he’s drowning
He’ll grab it every time.
Throw a man a raft when he’s drowning
He’ll grab on to that line.

CHORUS
But I’m here to catch you,
When you take the free fall,
Now is the time-to set yourself free.
Fall into love, into love with me.

Fall, Fall, Baby, into love with me.
Fall, Fall, Baby, into love with me.

VERSE:
How can I stop you?
If you can’t stop yourself?
How can I know you?
If you don’t know yourself?

REFRAIN:
When you’re stuck in quicksand,
Struggling simply seals your fate.
When you’re stuck in quicksand,
It’s already way too late.

VERSE:
How can I find you,
When you’re trying to find yourself?
How can I love you?
If you don’t love yourself?

REFRAIN:
When you’ve made the wrong turn,
And you don’t have a clue.
It’s time to ask for help,
You know just what to do.

CHORUS
And I am here to catch you,
When you take the free fall.
Now is the time-to set yourself free,
Fall into love, into love with me.

Fall, Fall, Baby, into love with me.
Fall, Fall, Baby, into love with me.
