"ARTIST'S MIRAGE - Laurie Larson"

Laurie Larson is a true renaissance woman; she not only sings, writes, plays many different instruments, photographs and paints, but she is an astrophysicist by occupation.

For her, mixing science and art makes perfect sense.

"Creativity is born from making unique connections between divergent notes, divergent arts and divergent sciences," she says.

Creativity certainly abounds on this CD.

Called "psychedelic folk-rock" by her label, the music incorporates her poetry (often resembling prayer, as in "Sunset of the Mesa") and ethereal backup that ranges from multi-track vocals to synthesizer to sax, as in the captivating "Feather Dancer." With more of a New Age sound than folk, Larson's songs are daring, uniquely her own - the title cut really gets out there! Definitely worth a listen, preferably with headphones. - NAPRA REVIEW

"All Access Magazine 2008"

From All Access Magazine July 31, 2008, Laurie is a magical performer whose blue eyes seem to be as deep as the deepest ocean in the world. With her floating vocals and stunning harmonies her music is sometimes other-worldly. You can hear or at least feel that she is breathing from her essence in every song on her My Space page. Her music is almost like a soundtrack to your peaceful, yet innermost and most feared dreams; where everything seems tranquil on the surface, but your inner struggle between your life awake and asleep always meet. At times she uses harder riffs on the instruments being played by band-mates to balance her smooth and sweet sounding vocals. In her songs she talks about being in charge of your own life, future and dreams, which are beautifully illustrated in "Architect of Dreams"; where she writes what has been left behind, torn down and rebuilt with the help of somebody else. Her lyrics are meant to be listened to intently and pondered on. Laurie is very introspective and wise. The music and her voice mold into one, listening to her music may allow the listener to look deeper into their own souls; and free themselves of the chains that have built up in our lives. Optimism is the underlying message of her music; it is evident in all her songs, but especially when one listens to "My Time Will Arrive" and "A Moment's Reflection". She has been to the Power of Prog Festival for Melodic Rock; and her sound suits the feel and image well. In the business for many years, her experience as a musician shows; as a former DJ she knows what a listening audience is looking for when they hear the first few bars of a song. She is a poet a musician and possibly the answer you are looking for if you want to explore what is deep in your soul. She is not a woman to sit by her laurels and be content to rest; this is a woman with power, energy and a sprinkle of fairy dust, who has worked with some of the finest musicians in the world. She is politically, socially and civic minded; with the voice of a seraph from the skies. - Christi Broekemeier, Backstage at Myspace

"Aquila Review June 2006"

Your title track is clearly the signature cut on the CD but it's very close. You don't seem to have a "bad track" in the collection. If someone likes "Aquila" they will be pleased with the rest. I think your myspace slogan sums your style up best, "An Alternative to Alternative"... perfect. The Avril / Natalie / Jewel sound defined female alternative in the 90's, you're defining the genre in the new millennium. - Paul Monaco - iKISS FM Hartford, Connecticut

"Aquila Review - Commercial Rock Radio"

"I have been involved with Classic Rock radio stations for nearly 20 years and the music, although great, is not changing. Recently I listened to a new release Aquila by Laurie Larson and was blown away, classic rock but it is new stuff. Like Neil Young said, 'Rock and Roll is here to stay' and Laurie proves it with every cut from her album. The melody has that haunting roughness that makes it sound classic and the lyrics are timeless. It is a must play on any rock station." - Jim Seemiller, President, ATB Broadcast Consultants, Inc.

"Aquila Review College Radio"

Good record! Well-written songs and a wonderful voice!! "Aquila" is getting 2-3 spins a week within our eclectic mix.

Bio

Laurie Larson's third CD was in the Grammy nomination process & continues to build upon superb songwriting and musicianship. Unlike most albums with only one or two good tracks, each song on this CD can stand on its own. It sounds like a greatest hits CD, but all songs were written by Laurie Larson in the last few months, with the exception of "Artist's Mirage Two" - a rearrangement of the title track to her first album she wrote in (2001), and one of the counter melodies in "True to Nature" she wrote in (1984). The title track will be featured in Relix Magazine's CD sampler in November! "1 Realm" is featured in Global Rhythm's Sampler & the Acoustic Rainbow sampler. "A Call to Action" can also be found on Global Rhythm Magazine's CD Sampler.

The top notch musicians who were on her previous release, "Aquila" return:

Ed DeLucia (Ronstadts): Guitars
Ralph Gilmore (Grass Roots): Drums
Jim Brady (Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt): Bass

Special thanks to special guest Jim Roberts (he has produced, performed on or engineered records for John Entwistle, Steve Walsh, Kansas & Leslie West). Jim plays the Hammond B3 on the first track "Endless Thank You Loop" and he mixed "Artist's Mirage Two".

The rest of the mixing was done by Jim Brady at his studio in Tucson, Arizona.

Laurie was born in Kalispell, Montana. She went to high school in Custer, South Dakota, Littleton, Colorado and Los Lunas, New Mexico.

She has been on stage with members of Jefferson Airplane, Mick Fleetwood's Zoo and members of Country Joe and the Fish. She has won awards for her bass playing in several jazz contests.

Her song Feather Dancer was a top video in Albuquerque, NM.

Laurie ran twice for the Arizona House of Representatives and has been a web designer for several candidates from Congressional Races to Governor.

Her art and photography is also available at several galleries in the Phoenix area.

A lifelong radio DJ, consultant and rock & roll music director, she has also been a Program Director and Operations Manager for multiple cluster stations, in the southwest and California.
Laurie has also worked in state and city government, education and for Kitt Peak National Observatory.
