The artist Gage was born as Corey Weatherspoon December 16, 1988 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. As a kid, Gage grew up in the inner city playing football to keep out of trouble. He also grew up to a backdrop of music with his grandma playing old school joints like Earth, Wind & Fire and The Temptations, and his mother playing music like Jill Scott and Brian McKnight.
Gage became interested in hip hop/rap music pretty late in childhood. What caught his eye about the rap game was the flashiness, girls and jewelry in the No Limit videos. What kept his attention was the word-play and lyrics like those of Lloyd Banks & Stack Bundles (RIP).
He started Free-style rapping and writing as a hobby. By 19 Gage stepped into the studio for the first time and started doing shows with high school friend Keith Carter. They released a CD that went under the radar Entitled Underdogs.
Between the age 20-22 Gage took a break from music and went off to college to play football. During this time, his college girlfriend gave birth to his son. As life has it, Gage decided to drop out of college and dedicate his drive and energy to music. By January 2012 he dropped his first Mixtape entitled Brain Freeze. The release slowly gained momentum and he was nominated for Rookie Of The Year with T.C.U.M.A Twin Cities Urban Music Awards. Sadly he didn’t win.
That same year Gage signed with local label Street Capital. By October 2012 Gage along with 6 other solo artist on the label collaborated to release Capitalism. The CD and Street Cap, had great momentum and the city of St. Paul backing them.
Between December 2012 thru December 2013 Gage and Street Capital embarked on a tour in the Midwest; they made a name for themselves.
Today, 2014, Gage is set to release his highly anticipated 2nd Mixtape entitled F.M.C (Fuck My Competition); Industry Ready and first solo project with label Street Capital. After a few date push backs, Gage is finally ready to release the CD that’s already getting a lot of buzz. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this talented Minnesota Artist.
