Bio

New girl group La VuVuZeLa are climbing local charts with their sexy pop, R&B and house sound and new – and first – single ‘Be Mine Tonight’ which debuted on radio stations around the country in September 2009.
When you consider their success, it’s hard to believe that the three members – lead singer Tarryn Lamb and back-up vocalists and dancers Tamsyn Maker and Samantha Heldsinger – met only three months ago after they were discovered by UK label, Unie Moller Music (UMM). Tarryn first met director of UMM, Unie Moller, in Cape Town a few years ago while he was scouting for talent and when he called earlier this year with an idea to start an all-girl band, she jumped at the chance.
With Moller working from the UK and Tarryn in Cape Town, they placed an ad on Gumtree for vocalists and dancers to join the group. Tamsyn and Sam responded and La VuVuZela was born.
Since then the girls have put together their first single, ‘Be Mine Tonight’ in record time with the help of top international song writers and producers such as Jack D Elliot – who has worked with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake – and have already hit no 1 on the KFM Homebrew Top 10 Charts in September and most recently No 1 for 3 weeks on the Nokia Take 40 SA charts, as well as received airplay on radio stations around Europe.
They have also just finished their first album, ‘In Stereo’ which is rolling out in stores from 24 November 2009 and will be available from retailers nationwide this week. The album has already been entered into the SAMA awards and they plan to present it at the Cannes Music Festival in January 2010.
Each of the girls have a musical background dating back to primary school. Tarryn and Sam are both recent graduates from the Waterfront Theatre School and Tamsyn has performed with the dance company Afrika Ablaze and is currently juggling Business Management studies at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Their next project is the music video for ‘Be Mine Tonight’ which they aim to complete by the end of January 2010. They are also working on a special World Cup Anthem which they plan to release four weeks before the World Cup kicks off.
