Bio
Law of the Sea is a soundscape of pop energy, dreamy rock ‘n roll hooks, melodic guitar solos, and soaring vocals, set to a driving rhythm and drenched in a beautifully melancholic anxiety. The songs render a psychedelic nostalgia and the sonic tones of an era we know so well, but have somewhere forgotten. While difficult to categorize, Law of the Sea often draws comparisons to the stylings of Big Country, Depeche Mode, Ride, The Cure, The Police, My Bloody Valentine, Echo & the Bunnymen, Pink Floyd, and The Smiths to name a few.
Law of the Sea was conceived years earlier by singer/guitarist Immy Farukhi and guitarist Geoff Morrissey. The two met in 2001 while attending university in Philadelphia. However, it was not until both had moved to New York City in 2006 when they decided to form a musical collaboration. Combining their songwriting styles, Farukhi and Morrissey created several home-demo tracks, and the result of their sessions would lay the foundation of the band. Morrissey suggested the name ‘Law of the Sea’ because of its unconventional character and oceanic imagery that mirrors much of the band’s musical tone. To fill out the band, Alex White and Nate Kushner were enlisted on percussion and bass, respectively. Law of the Sea has been playing shows in NYC since August 2008, impressing audiences with their high energy performances and melodic conviction.
Law of the Sea released their first EP, Lost, on April 3rd, 2010, is currently composing material for the band’s follow-up record, and continues to play gigs within the NYC area.
