"Weekend Time Out"

Sunday the Fire and Water Cafe presents Terry Kitchen and Laura Wood. Terry Kitchen, a Boston - area songwriter has been warmly reviewed in Dirty Linen and Performing Songwriter Magazine...

LAURA WOOD has been one of my favorite Valley musicians for as long as I've been writing this column (1981). She sings in a lovely, deeply sustained voice, and plays excellent guitar and percussion. Fiddle and mondolin player, Chris Devine will accompany her, 8pm. - John Stifler - Daily Hampshire Gazette - Northampton, MA

"SOUTH STATION SLIDE - IS CD WORTH THE WAIT"

Patience pays off for fans of L.A. WOOD, who plays the Iron Horse on Tuesday.

LAURA WOOD has finally made the CD I have been waiting for, and I think a lot of other people have been waiting for. Titled "South Station Slide" the new Millriver Record's disc combines Wood's best qualities as singer, writer and instrumentalist and it weaves them together with her less tangible qualities, including a warm spirit that informs and is informed by several musical movements of the past two decades.

The term "musicians musician" wore out before I ever got to use it in print, but I'll use it anyway to describe Wood, who it seems to me has lent both substance and style to an uncountable number of music projects in the Valley and beyond. She sings beautifully, she plays guitar and percussion and she writes beautiful songs. Her role as a mainstay of the Summit House Concert Series on the Holyoke Range is nicely recalled by her sweet, gentle EP recording "Summit House." She has also opened for Nancy Griffith and Melissa Ferrick, played at the WGBH "T Party" that commemorated the 100th anniversary of Boston's Subway System and performed in assorted festivals including the Rockrgrl Music Conference last summer in Seattle. "South Station Slide" brings together Wood's layers of musical experience.
Wood celebrates the CD with a show Tuesday at the Iron Horse at 7pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. - John Stifler - Daily Hampshire Gazette - Northampton, MA

"On Self Motivation and Success"

LAURA WOOD has made a name for herself as a performer in the tree - lined hills of Western Massachusetts. The multi-talented musician sings, composes film scores, writes progressive acoustic songs and plays guitar as well as percussion. She has headlined at most of the areas major acoustic venues such as the Iron Horse, Passim's, and Caffe Lena, perfomed at major womens festivals and worked with artists like Richie Havens, Leah Kunkel, June Millington and Country Joe McDonald. She is also in demand as a studio percussionist with dozens of album credits to her name. Her latest release is the stunningly beautiful acoustic instrumental album "Summit House." Laura's guitar work is at once graceful and fiery. Driven by her serious ability to lay down a percussive groove, the songs exhibit emotional depth and are also fun to listen to! - Kevin McClusky - New England Performer

"Fabu Review"

Some of you may have heard of LAURA WOOD from her Capital District Days. She studied music at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York and began her singing career at Caffe Lena at age 19. She then went on to study vocal jazz in Amherst at the University of Massachusetts, Percussion in New York City with Harry Belafonte's percussionist and classical guitar in Belgium. Now a fabulous guitarist, singer and performing songwriter, Laura took her music seriously and studied it as she would any occupation. I remember an interview I had with Janis Ian last year in Nashville, at her seventeenth CD release party, and I asked Janis about her view of her music. She replied, "It's my job." She approaches her music with that same dedication. She studied with the best, she applied herself at her "job." and she learned how to "let it flow." Wood's talents and skills have led her to great accomplishments so far and she's still running... Now Wood is releasing her long awaited second CD "South Station Slide" at the popular world-renowned Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, Massachusetts on Tuesday, Dec. 19th at 7:00pm. For more information contact Acoustic Mountain Management at mtacoustic@aol.com or go to www.millriver.com.
Listen for Corley Roberts and the Fabu Review on WGBY Radio every Thursday morning at 8:10am. You may contact Corley at: corley@faburecords.com. - Corley P. Roberts - Beacon Correspondent Albany, New York
