"Gazette (Mtl.)"

Bigger than alt-country and certainly bigger than their own Montreal backstory, this local band puts it all together on an album that recalls this city's great countrified bands (Three O'Clock Train, The Darned, Steel Rail), even as it outreaches them. Mark Goodwin's songwriting is meaningful and affecting, and the assured, professional and heartfelt playing of his band colour this with a depth that will surprise anyone expecting an "indie" project. Bracingly good. Shop local folks 4/5

"Montreal Mirror"

After a stint playing locally under the moniker 'LI'L BUCK', these locals re-emerge with a new name and new 'psych-pop' leanings.
The unlikely opener, 'DAMASCUS' takes risks, dipping equally into light and dark, but it's on the Roy Orbison-flavoured "OUTSIDE ALWAYS' that things start to take off. Singer/songwriter MARK GOODWIN proves himself deft with a pen, giving his words further depth with a twisting and turning vocal performance and clever arrangement work.

Bio

Lazarus Moan has worn many hats over the years and have been difficult to pin down and stuff into a stylistic bird-hole. Their influences range from Gram Parsons type-country to Stooges type-rock and have frequently been seen backing up other Montreal artists both live and on record such as Mack Mackenzie (Three O'Clock Train), Ian Stephens (Wining, Dining & Drilling), Little Birdie, Blue Seeds etc.
