"Debut Release "Dead on Arrival" Review"

Last Day Living - Dallas, TX
http://www.myspace.com/ldlband

2008 has been about some new outlooks and beginnings for myself personally. I get these MP3 tracks in the email box and immediately burn it to CD. When I do a review I like to listen to the music in the car and anywhere I can stick the CD in. I dove head first into this one and right off the bat a few tracks stand out above the rest : Track 1 Pedestal, it has hints of some dark swampy metal with a pink floyd like beginning. Some tracks have the new start out slow then get heavy structure to them. For me ONE or TWO songs like that on a CD are plenty. I like a groove you know like heavy or slow etc when things change up alot it is hard to follow. Jumping forward to Track 3 Perpetual Intercourse, right off the bat I thought it was a Drowning Pool cover. Very close to a couple of Dave era DP songs. Is that a bad thing? No it just caught me off guard HAHA I have heard the Pantera influence many times but not too much of the DP.
Track 8 Run Away another that stands out. Some hints of Joe Satriani in the guitar. The studio that recorded/mastered this CD rules! They were able to capture alot of the subtle sounds that you would normally miss with alot of the "Home Studio" efforts. I dig Run Away and suspect it will be a big song for them in a live setting.
Track 9 Repent ahh yes we came to the Pantera influenced song. Very groovey track here with hints of The Mighty Dimebag Darrell in the background. I could almost see him playing some of these licks in my head. Spooky! (R.I.P.Darrell) BOOOWWWWWW DOOOOWN! good track!

These guys def have a recipe for FM radio support I have not heard too many locals with this level of polished talent. Just a few is all......
I could see them out on the warp tour or something in that realm. The guitar work on this album has a very swampy groove feel to it. Not tuned down to sound heavy (like Sabbath) but some def groove in this CD. Even on the clean tone there is hints of what I call "Southern Style" in there with pick squeals and bent strings. I give the overall CD a 8.5 out of 10. I give the recording and studio work on this CD a perfect 10. Not many have I heard with this clean and polished of a sound. Once I find out where it was recorded I pass it along.
I cannot wait to see these guys play and if there is way I could get a 7 Story Drop, The Cast and Last Day Living lineup out at Firewater that would be awesome!
