"IT GETS BETTER PROJECT @TT THE BEARS"

There’s not a whole heck of a lot of charities out there where “having a friggin’ blast” actually falls in line with the mission statement, but hey, that would be just one of the many, many reasons that the It Gets Better Project is something we can totally get behind. Fight back against bigotry, one two-beer shuffle at a time, with tonight’s benefit at T.T.. the Bear’s featuring the fun-positive tuneage of Thick as Thieves, The Bynars, and Yes Sir, ending on the smeared-lipstick apocalyptica of DJ Leah V. Yes, it does gets better. But not much more than this. - The Dig Boston

"IN THE MIX: DJ LEAHV AND B!TCH PLEASE"

Possibly the best name for a lesbian-centric dance party we’ve ever heard: B!TCH PLEASE.

That’s just awesome.

DJ LeahV, “host b!tch with the most b!tch” is one of the masterminds behind what she describes as a “punk/riot grrl/rap/metal/funk/new wave” party. And she ain’t kiddin around. For one thing, she’s behind PaperPanda (also known for doing Milk & Honey @ Good Life), but more importantly, check out her music. Here’s her Nancy Sinatra edit – suddenly “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” sounds like a group of gangsters cruising around looking for the sorry gambler that just got cut off. Oh, and characteristically, it has an awesome name: “Boots Made for Rockin’.”
The question remains, though, what exactly can you expect out of a queer dance party involving more genres than a 17-year old guitar player’s list of “influences” on myspace? Well, probably a lot of stuff. If Leah’s “Grape Soda” mix (embedded below) is any indication, you can expect Jay-Z, Amanda Blank, Peaches, and the theme from Fraggle Rock. Not kidding about that. Fraggle Rock.

So it seems like the only thing to do, really, is take Leah’s word. There will be hip-hop, metal, riot grrrl, funk, new wave, and punk. All at once. And a lot of dancing. As she put it, it’s a place for “punks, queers, freaks, music nerds.”

And well, those are all things we like, but if that weren’t enough, there’s also DJ WitchTits and DJ D’Hana, who’s been blowing it up over at NuLife.

Bio

DJ LeahV is a magic mystery. Just kidding. She's a kid who had this idea that it’d be super rad to become a DJ. She didn't know of any female DJ's, and ever since she was a young’n, Leah has been drawn to things that were outside the box. "I liked to stand out and let my freak flag fly I suppose. I always had a love for music, and I was lucky to have parents who exposed me to amazing sounds." Leah knew how to cue up a record on her father's Technics 1200 by the time she was 6 years old. It’s that very collection of vintage records that started her first crate for her first bedroom set-up. Staying true to the craft, LeahV still spins on those Technic 1200's she learned to use so long ago, except now in clubs and bars across the country, rather than in her bedroom. LeahV's style of smooth blends between various genre's, ability to read and rock any crowd for hours, and all-out energy has made her a force in the Boston nightlife scene, earning her a nomination for "DJ of the Year" at the 2010 Boston Music Awards. This year, she's opened for artists such as; Melissa Ferrick, Kid Sister, Lyrics Born, Ellie Goulding, DJ Shortee, among many others. You can catch her at one of her residencies around Boston and Cambridge, at parties in Brooklyn and Manhattan, Miami, Philly, DC, etc, and spinning with the best DJs and promoters the country has to offer.
