FORD ATKINSON– REPORTER
HOUSTON - A Houston singer, who won a Nickelodeon poll as favorite family entertainer, says she was surprised by the honor. Leah White has been performing family and children's music in Houston for several years. White says "It was wonderful to achieve that, especially since this was the first time I was nominated." The singer writes much of her material. One of her latest songs was inspired by the Swine Flu scare. It encourages children to wash their hands regularly as a way of avoiding the illness.

CHRIS GRAY
We don't report much from the world of children's music, but this is definitely worth noting. Parents nationwide voted Houston's Leah White & the Magic Mirrors winners of this year's "Parents Pick Award" as Best Entertainers/Music on Nickelodeon's Parents Connect Web site. The Mirrors, whose first album, Cake for Dinner, features such songs as "Swing Set Takeover," "Car Seat Blues" and "Don't Trust Strangers," are singer-songwriter White and three members of popular local Fab Four tribute band Beetle. The quartet releases its latest CD, A White Christmas, 2 p.m. Sunday, September 13, at the Houston Children's Museum, 1500 Binz. Is it time to start holiday shopping already?

"Do, Re, Mi Children's Music"

Do, Re, Mi- Children's Music has come quite a long way since kids were pounded with repeated renditions of "Old MacDonald had a Farm". Texan Leah White's acoustic guitar and soaring voice could get her mistaken for a modern folkie, but just listen a little closer. Songs like "Car Seat Blues" and "Dead Armadillo" are definately aimed at kids. And don't worry--she can still break out a mean version of "itsy Bitsy Spider" if need be.

ABOUT THE BAND...
Leah White & The Magic Mirrors recently won the 2010 Parent's Choice Foundation Award & the 2009 Nickelodeon’s Parent’s Choice Award for Best Music/ Entertainers. Recently, the Houston Zoo just announced that "Beautiful Day" off of the Sprinkler album, the Official Theme Song of the Houston Zoo. This band's next album is already in the works and is for The City of Houston's 175th Birthday called "Houston: Our Roots Are Strong" and is due to hit the shelves in August 2011.

FAMILY MUSIC IS OUR GENRE---NOT JUST CHILDREN'S MUSIC!
This is not children's music! This is FAMILY music. The songs are all original, fun and interactive but they are unique in that they have an adult sound that everyone enjoys. It's often called the Shrek version of music because both parents enjoy it as well as the kiddos. Many moms and dads explain that after dropping off their kids they find themselves driving around listening to the cd’s and singing along.

ABOUT LEAH WHITE...
Leah White was inspired to sing and write music for families when she was driving down the road one day with her three kids in tow and couldn't stand to hear the song "Fruit Salad" by the Wiggles one more time. It seemed that having children introduced her to a world of music all about sippy cups, eating vegetables accompanied by an acoustic guitar played in the key of C.

Leah White was a singer-songwriter and guitarist with adult music but somewhere in the midst of the Wiggles songs she found a higher calling to write about real issues in the family using her quirky sense of humor and life experiences with three children. It's topics from "Nose Picking" to going to the Zoo it's a "Beautiful Day" among many others that families come to love. When Leah White writes music she claims to focus on her audience and so her goal is to "Make the parents laugh. Make the kids sing and move, but most of all have everyone enjoy the music". There are not many artists in music today that are writing and trying hard to entertain the entire family. There is a separation of what is for children and what is for adults and it doesn't have to be that way.

Listening to Leah White & the Magic Mirrors makes everyone move and groove. It sends kiddos home with educational and moral values like "Be Polite" and helps the parents appreciate the joy and humor of parenting.

A band with a high level of musicianship:
Each member rocks and are very talented musicians. They impact the music’s sound from their involvement in popular disco, Beetles, indie bands, etc. These influences add a super cool and rockin’ vibe to our kid’s music that even adults are able to find their hips shakin’ to the beat.

Seasonal Music & Event Tailoring:
Our music can be tailored to any season. With the release of the Christmas Album, A White Christmas (Dec. 2009) we have many songs for the holiday season and also for summer beach bash themes, Christian, Halloween and birthday parties. We are very flexible and want the children & families to have fun.

Finally, we rock live!
We sound great, are super interactive and we get kids and adults dancing. During shows, we are also educational in that we teach kids how to do “The Wash” (make hand washing fun). I love to go into the crowd and run around singing and dancing with kids. There is never a dull moment with our concerts. We aim for high energy, interactive concerts that create a “Wow factor”.
