What For

Written By: LeAnne King

WHAT FOR

My name is Johnny and I’m seven years old

We had to have a war, or so that’s what I’m told,

I don’t know much about the world well that’s for sure,

So I just thought I’d ask you what its for…

I have a cattle dog his name is Jimmy Beam,

My Daddy’s always laughin' when he hears his name

But all I know is Dad’s not laughin' anymore

I just thought I’d ask you what for…

CHORUS
I hear our neighbour, she keeps cryin' all the time

Keeps saying something, ‘bout how the world is blind,

I don’t know much about that, they all look fine to me,

I wonder what it is that they can’t see…….

My teacher told me Lord, that I could talk to you,

She said you were the one who made it all from new,

I wanna tell you it was a good job that you done,

I guess it wasn’t you who made the guns….

And on the radio they all talk really loud

‘Bout how the country and the people should be proud,

My mother’s buyin' a special thing to lock the door,

I just thought I’d ask you what for….

CHORUS

My name is Johnny and I’m seven years old

We had to have a war, or so that’s what I’m told,

I don’t know much about the world well that’s for sure,

So I just thought I’d ask you what for…

My name is Johnny and I’m seven years old

We had to have a war, or so that’s what I’m told,

I don’t know much about the world well that’s for sure,

So I just thought I’d ask you what its for…

I just thought I’d ask you what for

My name is Johnny and I’m seven years old……….

Put Your Hand In Mine.

PUT YOUR HAND IN MINE

V1
She stands there in the doorway, and the tears are fallin’ down.
I remember as a baby how she’d wear that little frown.
She says ...They say that I don’t listen, and teacher says I’m bad
And I got a note from school today, and I know that you’ll be mad...

And I say......

CHORUS
Baby come to mama don’t you know that you can
There’s nothin’ you can’t tell me you just hold out your hand,
Don’t you know I’d change your life if I could,
I’d take away the sadness and I’d make it all good,
When you’re cryin’ and there’s no place to go,
When all your hopes are dyin’ then I think you should know
There’s no mountain that’s too steep we can’t climb
I’ll be right beside you; you just put your hand in mine...

V2
And now we have the parties, and the makeup, and the clothes,
She’s changin’ right before me as the woman in her grows,
But tonight the fear’s there in her eyes and I see her shakin’ hands
She says mama, somethin’s happened I don’t think you’ll understand…..And I say...…

Chorus

V3
The wedding was so perfect, and her babies look like her,
But I notice he’s not home much, and she’s sighin’ more and more
Now she’s standing in the hallway and her eyes are full of pain
She says Mama, where will I ever find the strength to start again.....

Chorus

TAG
Baby come to mama don’t you know that you can…

The Coat

Written By: LeAnne King

THE COAT © 2007 LeAnne King

V1
When I was just a little girl, I remember special days

When my Dad put on his woollen coat, he said it cost him twenty pays,

He’d put it on for Anzac* Day, and the annual service ball,

And you’d know how proud he was to wear it; he’d stand so straight and tall

But he never put his medals on; he didn’t like the fuss,

He worked hard for the simple things, to make a life for us,

Now the simple things are going, and everything’s brand new,

I wish he was here beside me, cause he’d know just what to do…

CHORUS

And sometimes when I’m feelin’ down

I take it off the wall,

And I wrap it all around me,

And I don’t feel so small

I know sometimes it’s hard to trust

The things you cannot see

But all I do is close my eyes,

And he’s with me...

V2
I know our lives are different, But I think we’re much the same

You have to take it as we find it, the good times and the rain,

When life crowds all around you, and you get pushed back in the line,

Hold tight what you believe there in your mind.

He’d say the measure of your courage, is not in what you say,

It’s in the people that you help and in the good you do each day,

And his coat, just like a patient friend, it hangs behind the door,

And it reminds me just what my life is for…

Troubled Man

Written By: LeAnne King

TROUBLED MAN L.KING© 2006

Verse 1

Troubled man just let it go

You think that you already know

The words are spinning, fallin from your mind.

Troubled man with angry heart,

Was it there right from the start

Or Did you just find out the world was so unkind.

CHORUS

Don’t you know there’s more than this

Find your ultimate release,

There’s white clouds up above in angry skies

Troubled man just hold on tight

Don’t give up without a fight

I see the anguish there behind your eyes.

Verse 2

You know you can see their lies

Don’t believe their grand disguise

They’ll tell you only what you want to hear

You can keep to who you are

Your destinations not that far

You could travel all the world and find it here
CHORUS

Bridge

There’s another day

It’s gonna be OK

Don’t throw it all away…..

Verse 3

Troubled man I see your pain

You’ll feel it every day again

Sometimes all you can do is try and hide

Don’t care what they want to see

Be just who you want to be

They’ll never hurt the you that’s there inside

CHORUS

Don’t you know there’s more than this

Find your ultimate release,

There’s white clouds up above in angry skies

Troubled man just hold on tight

Don’t give up without a fight

I see the brightness there behind your eyes.

END:

Troubled man with angry heart,

Was it there right from the start

Do You See Me.

Written By: LeAnne King

DO YOU SEE ME © 2005 LeAnne King
I knew there was something different,

I knew there was something wrong,

I knew there was something missing

Or maybe it had gone…

I knew there was something out there,

That would cover me like rain,

Now here I am just standing,

I don’t want to be the same… don’t want to be the same…

Along there comes a soft voice

And it whispers in my ear

Along there comes a mellow sound,

That only I can hear

Oh can’t you take me to the place

Where people don’t ask why,

Cause in this world I’m living in

I"ve got no time to cry… no time to cry…...

CHORUS Do you see me through the dark,

‘Cause you know that I see you,

Do you see me through the dark,

To the place that’s only you…

That’s only you

Oh if you could see inside my heart

you’d turn away in fear

Cause there is somethin cryin

But I cannot shed a tear

I never wanted shadows,

But they’re here inside of me,

They’re always there behind my eyes

So dark that I can’t see………..that I can’t see

CHORUS Do you see me through the dark,

‘Cause you know that I see you,

Do you see me through the dark,

To the place that’s only you…

That’s only you

All I've Got To Show

Written By: LeAnne King/Catherine Britt

All I’ve Got To Show

Verse 1

Sittin’ here and thinking, ‘bout what my life has been,
Sittin’ here and wondering, ‘bout all the things I’ve seen,
Watchin’ all the strangers as they slowly wander by.
I’m drowning in my whiskey and I’m trying not to cry.

CHORUS
Oh who would ever thought this is where I’d be
Drinkin’ away what’s left of me
Sittin’ in this lonely Honky Tonk bar,
Is this all I’ve got to show so far

Verse 2
The old dusty jukebox is playing another song
Everybody’s dancing, but I’m here on my own,
I’m like a faded photograph that someone’s thrown away,
I need to talk to someone, but I’ve got no words to say.

CHORUS
SOLO

CHORUS
Oh who would ever thought this is where I’d be
Drinkin’ away what’s left of me
Sittin’ in this lonely Honky Tonk bar,
Is this all I’ve got to show so far

Sittin’ in this lonely Honky Tonk bar,
Is this all I’ve got to show so far

Make Time..

Written By: LeAnne King

MAKE TIME L King © 2006

1/
I’m going through the motions, so they won’t ever know
And every time the phone rings, my heart beats slow,
‘Cause it might just be the answer, that I’ve been dreadin’ so
That your life isn’t working, and it’s me that has to go…

CHORUS

(But you have to) Make time for livin’
Make time for laughin’
Make time for lovin’ don’t you know.
(You have to) Make time for livin’
Make time for laughin’
Make time for lovin’ or it goes
I just want you to know…

2/
We used to talk about it, how the days were hard
And we’d fall into each others arms, and never come apart
But now you walk right past me as you come in through the door
And I don’t know what to say, so I’m not talking’ anymore...

CHORUS
BRIDGE
And even as you’re laying like a stranger in our bed,
There’s so much I could say to you,
The words rush through my head...

CHORUS x2
(You have to) Make time for livin’
Make time for laughin’
Make time for lovin’ don’t you know.
(You have to) Make time for livin’
Make time for laughin’
Make time for lovin’ or it goes
I just want you to know…
Didn’t want you to go…
