"HAPPY Premieres BEARING THE CROWN"

You won’t be able to stop yourself from smiling after you hear this track. It’s gorgeously mellow, adorably sweet and grounded by a heavy heart.

Cairns / Brisbane’s singer-songwriter and guitarist Leanne Tennant, has a new video to accompany her latest single and you are going to simply fall in love with it if folk, blues and rockability is your thing, because it’s a song and clip that shines though everything you love about these genres.
Leanne Tennant’s latest song is a loveable story of family, journey, isolation and a home-coming that will remind you of all the good things life has to offer.

Bearing the Crown is a single from Leanne’s debut album Pull Up Your Britches. It’s delicately crafted melodies reveal the beauty and melancholy of life as it goes by. Leanne’s vocals carry a cheerful sorrow- her lustrous tone, which has so much depth and warmth, plus the song’s silky smooth harmonies and fluttery guitar rhythms are much to be admired.

The video reveals a very experiential journey, highlighting people’s personal stories far and wide as they live on with their burdens like it’s routine, warranting a long awaited home-coming to remind them of who they really are- home is where the heart is, but it is also a reminder of everything you achieved when we were away, it acts as a safeguard for when things could’ve been better then they turned out to be.

This song reminds me of how no matter where we are in the world, the love of family and friendships we chose to keep cloose to us, accompany us on our lonesome journeys. But every now and again time catches up on us and we forget what we are living for. We must stop to remind ourselves of the beauty that is life, otherwise we will surely grow old and be gone with regrets. Never forget home because it will never forget you.

Leanne tells her protectors: “Hold my hand, I no longer bear the crown, don’t hold me down, when I run, when I hide, when I’m out.” By no longer bearing the crown you bring down your walls. From telling your loved ones to let you go, you will soon need to return to them for encouragement to re-energise you for your even longer and hopefully not so lonely travels.

Pull Up Your Britches has been launched in her hometown of Cairns. It was recorded and produced by Mark Myers ( The Middle East) and the album features a guest line-up including Bill Chambers ( The Hillbilly Killers), Jordan Ireland ( The Middle East and Stolen Violin), Jack Venables ( Osaka Punch) and Simon McMenamin ( The McMenamins). You’re in for a treat. - Happy

"Pull Up Your Britches"

From the opening notes of Leanne Tennant's breakthrough debut album Pull Up Your Britches, it's immediately clear the Cairns singer-songwriter is onto a winner. Whether it's jangly old-time jazz (Mrs Brown), sophisticated folk-pop (the lead single Bearing the Crown), bush ballads (7 Drunken Nights), moody blues (Blues Calling) or even a good ol' murder ballad (Boom, Boom!), Pull Up Your Britches covers a lot of sonic ground (and crosses several eras) without so much as breaking a sweat. Throw some stellar guest appearances (Bill Chambers, Jordan Ireland, etc) and production from Mark Myers (The Middle East), it's definitely no surprise Triple J is all over this one. - Jesse Kuch - Cairns Post

"MojoWire"

One of the best aspects of presenting a radio program is the opportunity it gives me to put music lovers and musicians together and thereʼs nothing quite so rewarding as the moment the phone rings at the station and someone says, “I loved that song.” Iʼve had that experience many times when Iʼve played the music of FNQ singer songwriter Leanne Tennant. I first heard of Leanne a few years back, around the time she won the Port Douglas Carnivale songwriters competition. Since then, sheʼs become a mainstay of the Cairns music scene - sheʼs one of those performers so at home in front of an audience that neither wants the show to end. Sheʼs an engagingly original singer songwriter, with a very good ear for crowd pleasing covers – and sheʼs earned the respect and admiration of some big names in the music business – Colin Hay, Bill Chambers, Daryl Brathwaite, Jenny Morris, Jimi Hocking of The Screaming Jets, Ray Beadle, and the McMenamins. - ABC Far North & Mojowire.net

Bio

Just a few years into her creative career already blessed with highlights, Leanne is an artist who manages to mix vulnerability with a fiery backhand.  This is the feeling that runs through her debut album, Pull Up Your Britches, which blends a colourful tapestry of delicate moments met with an unusual strength.

Recorded and produced by Mark Myers at Big Sister studios in Cairns, the album consists of a fine line up of musicians including, Bill Chambers - The Hillbillykillers, Jordan Ireland - The Middle East/Stolen Violin, Jack Venables - Osaka Punch and Simon McMenamin - The McMenamins.  She has already had success with two tracks called Bearing The Crown and Black Snake Calls which are currently being played on Triple J, Roots n All and has just released the music video to accompany Bearing The Crown.

Described by Bill Chambers as a serious Australian talent, Leanne will lead you on a twisted path of Front-Porch Folk & Horror-Country Blues.

Leanne has been writing songs and in love with music for as long as she can remember.  She began playing the guitar in her teens and started performing publicly by busking in the subways of Brisbane before commencing gig life as soon as she left school.  She has many festivals under her belt including Bigsound, Cairns Festival and Tamworth Country Music Festival and continues to be approached about performing events across Australia.

Leanne is very excited to release her debut album, Pull Up Your Britches.  It’s a collection of songs which represent an artist who has grown into her own and is not afraid to take risks.  Pull Up Your Britches, also the first line in Horror-Country track, Boom Boom, represents a time to pick yourself up, move on and make change.

Described by Jesse Kuch at the Cairns Post as one of the best albums to emerge from Cairns, it’s no wonder why people are taking notice.
