"Aldenhoven. Wenn Wände wackeln, ist die Ursache keineswegs stets ein Erdbeben. Auslösendes Moment kann ein Punkrock-Orkan sein, der durch das Evangelische Gemeindezentrum in Aldenhoven rauscht.

Der tönende Wirbelwind kam von der britischen Insel herübergefegt. Direkt aus dem Sturmzentrum Sheffield brauste «Leather Zoo» in die Merzbachgemeinde. Dabei wirkt die Instrumentalgruppe mit der Sängerin Mel auf der Bühne zunächst alles andere als aufbrausend: Gewöhnliches Outfit, durchschnittliche Konfektionsgröße M. Aber bereits mit den ersten Gitarrenriffs röhrte ihr Sound im XXL-Format.

In der Tat vermieden die vier Musiker lediglich, wie ein Hurrikan nur kurz aber heftig zu wüten. Ihre Songs vermochten oft genug unbändig zu tosen, jedoch kaum weniger verstanden sie fantastisch melodischen Punk-Rock zu säuseln. Alles scheint sich um Mel, die Frontfrau, zu drehen. Mit ihrer wundervollen Altstimme zog sie die Zuhörer sofort in Bann. Das Bassgewitter von JK, das Drumfeuer von BJ sowie die Staccato-Riffs von Biff da Driff und Mels Soli steigen zu Kopf und weigern sich, die Gehörgänge wieder zu verlassen.

«Psychic Man» etwa ist so ein Ohrwurm, der gleichwohl ruhiger, mit schwerfälligerem Rhythmus, dauernden Wendungen und einem hymnenartigen Chorus fesselt. Wie die meisten Songs stammt auch «Crisis Theory» aus der Feder der Sängerin; mächtig, zugleich kraftvoll trieb sie die gradlinigen Texte voran. Die Kompositionen, gleichfalls die Harmonien klingen einfach strukturiert. Allerdings wirken sie stets spontan, nicht unähnlich einer Impuls-Musik, die aus dem Bauch kommt.

«Leather Zoo» ist aktuell auf Europa-Tournee, kam frisch aus Mannheim und Berlin, wo sie vor 5000 Zuhörern spielten. Die überschaubare Fangemeinde in Aldenhoven freute sich sichtlich, das Punk-Powerhighlight aus England erleben zu dürfen. Zudem lernten sie mit «Häll Bäll» sowie «Höhenflug» zwei Rockformationen aus der Region kennen. Die Vorboten des Inselsturms nutzten die Chance, im Vorprogramm ihre Interpretationsformen der differenzierten Sub-Genres des Punks vorzustellen.

Das Quartett «Häll Bäll» aus Gerderath-Genhof bezeichnet die eigene Musik wie die erste CD: «Gemüse für die Ohren». Die vier Herren bereiteten die hörbaren Feld- und Gartengewächse zu Arrangements kompositorischer Gar-Gerichte zu. Ob ihr Songmenu jemals die Speisekarten der 5-Sternetempel erreichen oder nur die der Fast Food Ketten zieren wird, wird spannend zu verfolgen sein.

Die Heinsberger Hard-Boygroup mit Schlagzeugerin «Höhenflug» möchte gerne zum selbigen mittels ihres unerbittlich ruppigen Beatsounds ansetzen. Jedenfalls wussten die Veranstalter Cult Corner mit der Gemeinde Aldenhoven, mit der Rocknacht einen Raketenstart ins Jahr 2008 hinzulegen. " - Concert Review in the Jülicher Nachrichten

From Sheffield's finest punk-pop band comes the first new material in a couple of years and they've produced a song that could take the world by storm. The title track is a mix of adrenaline rush, commerciality, cohesion and anthem. With a storming sea of muscular rhythm work, the guitar riffs away as lead singer Mel's husky yet powerful vocal becomes both lead and her own harmonies as the song enters your head and heart and refuses to let go, the pace one that has you irresistibly caught in its spell, the chorus one that has you singing along like you're ona football terrace. In short, it's a sensational song that is the epitome of British pop-punk and al that it can offer. But that's not all, by any means. "Stranger" begins as a ballad with Mel's heartfelt vocal over slow backing before gathering pace and erupting into another anthem of soaring vocal, scything guitars and rock solid driving rhythms with thunderous bass and crunching drums, as the guitar lights up, soloing and riffing from horizon to horizon on what is another gem of a track. A re-recording of two of the finest tracks from the first EP comes with a scorching version of "Release Me" as this dynamic mix of rock 'n' roll mixes with adrenaline- raising punk power, a brooding, driving verse leading into this roar of a chorus that catches you in its spell as the brooding vocal from Mel becomes this scale-climbing lead that surges into one awesomely anthemic chorus. Then comes the new version of their absolute classic track "Fairy Punk Princess" as it launches into life with this incendiary guitar riff over driving rhythm, as Mel's low-down vocal takes the verse by storm, the backing vocals delivering the verse coda as the guitar rings out and we head into the real chorus as the song explodes into life and hammers home as one of the best examples of pop-punk you'll hear. Overall, it's absolutely fantastic, a real leap up from the debut all that time ago and proof positive that this band are one of the most potentially commercially successful punk bands around today. - Dead Earnest
