Bio
Stand outside a suburban Philadelphia basement window at 12:10 am and you usually won’t hear much more than the whisper of the wind. That is, unless you happen to walk by the studio of newcomers Leaving Midnight. The band, named after their propensity to play well into the night, draws its roots from two college neighbors who spent their nights laughing at (and secretly loving) the spectacle of 80’s metal videos. Laughter led to music. Music led to creativity and inspiration. After a few years playing in various individual bands, everything came together, and Leaving Midnight was born.
One spin of the lead single “Terminal” and it’s clear that this group of seasoned musicians has a passion that others can only imitate. In an industry where others “polish” their music until there’s nothing left, Leaving Midnight is a refreshingly raw, yet delightfully refined mix of energy and radio-ready hooks.
Frontman Chris Harper’s soul-filled melodies and storytelling lyrics soar above an audio assault of heavy riffs and blended guitar solos produced by John Calvello and Rob Palanza. Couple this with Derek Slifer’s driving drums and the thick bass of Joe Megonigal and the band’s instrumentation is enough to enjoy on its own. Put all together, the result is a band that resonates in more than just a listener’s ears.
Leaving Midnight is: Chris Harper (Vocals, Harmonica); Rob Palanza (Guitar, vocals); John Calvello (Guitar); Joe Megonigal (Bass); Derek Slifer (Drums).
