"Lecia gets her indie groove on"

Gold Coast independent recording artist Lecia will showcase songs from her upcoming new album 'Into being' at Fisherman's Wharf on Friday night.
"It's been a year and a half coming" says the singer who breathes describes her original songs as a mixture of indie, rock, pop and alternative with a jazz groove edge.
"We've been working on it everywhere. In New South Wales, Western Australia, QLD and even Laos, because the producer recently moved there. "We've most recently back form WA with gigs in Broome, Fremantle and Margaret River.
"It's about being yourself and going with your own instincts which I suppose is what I try to do."
As a guitarist, Lecia has supported some of Austrlia's biggest names including Killing Heidi, The Butterfly Effect and Grinspoon.
An awar-winning song writer and performer, her original music has been featured on cable TV and radio stations across Australia, and has received airplay in Asia, the Solomon Islands and Marie's Magical Music show in New York.
She has also performed everywhere from Dubai, the united Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi in the Middle East to New York, Houston and Nashville, in the US.
In 2006, Lecia was touring the Solomon Islands when the Pacific Casino burned to the ground during politically instigated riots that took place just a few hours before her scheduled performance.
Trapped in a mision compound with the sound of Australian helicopters flying overhead, she penned Honiara which reflects upon the politics of the nation and the frustrations of Solomon Islanders.
Honiara received airplay on Triple J, the ABC, 92.1FM and 4zzz. A new version has been recorded for the album due for release later in the year.
"I was stuck on a small room not going anywhere," she says. "There was no TV, no radio, I could hear the helicopters flying in overhead. When it started I was in the middle of town, everything was hectic and busy, there was looting. I remember a bloke running down the road carrying a bed over his head. There as a truck in the distance that was burning. Me, I didn't know why people were angry, but I thought I should get out of there, so I bunked down in this little room in a compound where my sister as staying."

"LECIA"

'Having already received airplay in the US with songs from an unreleased album, it seems like Queensland's Lecia is just about ready for the big league.'

Lecia loves her 70's rock. and it shows. But rather than rehashing old sounds and mimicking her heroes, the singer breathes new life into the sound and produces great, hooky rock songs.
"I think it's because my stepdad used to play Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix videos all the time," she laughs. "This also introduced the glory of the electric guitar to me - I had no idea for years that it was unusual for girls to play guitar. I was always a bit of a tomboy as a kid, playing in the mud and climbing trees, so I guess it was quite natural to be throwing myself into a man's industry."
Lecia's album has been in the making for sometime now and, as she tells it, it's almost in the bag.
"Songs included on the coming album have been written anywhere from high school to now," she explains. "I joined forces with an old uni friend, who studied music as well, and while he was house - sitting for a friend in October last year, I joined him for a fortnight and we did pre-production for this album add day, everyday. We then hunted for players to record with. We had a few changes at the last minute when recording was scheduled to take place.
"We had various visitors while recording - one was Johnny Dick, who was the drummer on john Paul Young's 'Love Is In The Air', and has worked with some of the legends such as Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton. He was a cool character. [and] he was also kind enough to lend us his cymbals." - Time Off

Bio

In High school, when Lecia was bashing out riffs, new licks and tunes, she did not realize she was playing in a Man's world. While slowly learning a once accepted reality, that was, 'Women don't play guitar', she never adopted this as a real thought or way of thinking. Lecia has been moulding her craft for numerous years now. That is ; The guitar, and the song.
