Lee Griffin & The Triple B

Lee Griffin & The Triple B

 Brisbane, Queensland, AUS
BandRockAmericana

Five, sometimes six, piece guitar rock / country band spread across Brisbane, Sydney, Nashville, Toronto and Noosa. We have roughly 200 years combined musical experience, which is strange considering it stretches way back before the music we love was even invented.

Biography

Hello.

So, what does the Coorparoo Bowls Club, a RIDICULOUS guitar fetish, Kasey Chambers, Chinchilla, Bob Evans, Marcia Hines, Tasmania, Joe Cocker, British India, a pet Bulldog, a pet Beagle, a cat called Marley and two white toy dogs, through-the-line advertising, Dave and Gladys May of Auckland New Zealand, Ryan Adams, Chris Ramsay’s Jam Nights, Shihad, Okonomiyaki, MotorAce, Coopers Pale Ale, Pretty Violet Stain, Nashville, Weta, open guitar tunings, “Uncle” Bruce Springsteen, Adobe Creative Suite, King Ahiram’s $3.50 Falafels, a badly burned thigh with scar to match, weird personal hygiene requirements and Jagger/Richards/Rogers/Tyler/Perry/Finn all have in common with each other?

Well, us. Lee Griffin & The Triple B, from Brisbane Australia. Including - but not limited to - Lee Griffin (vocals/guitars), Gina Horswood (vocals/percussion), Dom Spooner (bass), Jason Millhouse (guitar) and Greg Conder (drums). Occasionally, John Kaldor of Sydney will join us on pedal steel guitar.

Each member of The Triple B has played in various other bands for years with varying levels of success - however despite Greg and Lee playing together for eight years, the Triple B really only formed in late 2009. Since then, we’ve played selected shows at Brisbane venues such as The Zoo, Rics and The Tempo Hotel - and developing a loyal group of staunch supporters along the way - but the real focus has been preparing for the studio to record our brand-spankin’ debut 12-track album “Plums”.

Plums was co-produced by Lee and Jason, a highly-sought after engineer/producer and also director/DOP in the music video world in his own right - and has come out sounding something like a mix of You Am I, Tom Petty and Ryan Adams. We reckon it’s pretty clear throughout the album that we love Americana rock/country, but it’s still distinctly Australian, and we’ve done our best to mash it up & make it our own.

Kathleen

Written By: L. Griffin

Make my way into the cafe
Where they do my favourite eggs
Something that'll carry me on

To somewhere later in the day
Somewhere I can stretch my legs
Cos it feels so good to know that I'm gone

But you won't play that way
Too afraid to entertain
When no-one's listening, anyway.

Now the only place your smiling face
Is shining down on me is from the wall
I promise you I won't retrace all the tracks that I have laid
I'm gonna learn from these mistakes and move along

Make my way into the city
Where everybody says
There's something that'll carry you on

To somewhere later in your lifetime
And where you can rest your head
But you drank too much again and you're gone

You were brave that way
Cos you'd always entertain
If no-one listened, anyway.

Now the only place your smiling face
Is shining down on me is from the wall
I promise you I won't retrace all the tracks that I have laid
I'm gonna learn from these mistakes and move along

Because all that time
My stupid tongue was tied
This whole life was lived a lie but that's back then

Cos baby it's been left behind
It's been escorted from my mind
I love it how this tragedy of mine is ours to share

Ride On

Written By: L. Griffin

Lip-read honey cos there's too much noise
Too many girls and too many ploys
And they all whisper, but there's nobody home

Wasting your breath on the back of a lie
Wasting that head on a one track mind
When you listen, to too many words

Won't you?
Ride on
My love
Hold on

Oh you
Ride on
Ride on

Feel it every time that I call your name
From the top of the stairs, just get outta the way
But no-one's listening, to what you're saying

You take your pills and your good advice
Swallow them down with your mouth all open wide
Aren't you glad you met me?

Words are dropping outta mouths like flies
Swarming on the food
Then it hits you right between the eyes
In so many ways they're just like you

Won't you?
Ride on
My love
Hold on

Oh you
Ride on
My love, hold on
My love, hold on

Batshit

Written By: L.Griffin

I'm gonna take this chance to say thanks to you
You got your taste but left me in-tact, un-chewed
I'd like to think the world got better for you
But I'm joking.

Cos it's a mess and yes, you realise it too
There's not a whole lot left that either can do
To clean it up, clear it up like the blue
Skies above.
Oh what fun.

Cos on and on these bats fill up the sky
Like your resentment, only out at night
Feeding when there's nothing left of light
And burning incandescent like the lies
Like the lies

How'd you like them apples?
Rotten til they're ripe
Do you remember all our battles
Or've you forgotten like you just forgot your last bite?
Seize the night.

Sunday Sleep-In

Written By: L.Griffin

It's a balls-up buddy, and what else can I say
You tried to get trendy so you
Hyphenated your surname
When you said you'd not change

And you tried to make Chile but you hit Venezuela
Now you're off to Manilla just to find you a tailor
Make some new clothes
You'll never hide that ego

Checkin' those windows at the shape that we're in
We all love the way that we're reflecting
And all the company I'm tired of keeping
I wish I could love them like a Sunday sleep-in

And if I was just half the man
That someone once said they believe I am
If I could just believe that friend
But not everything works out in the end.

So if you're on Facebook then let's start friendin'
And you can look at the pictures in which I've been posing
And all the company I'm tired of keeping
Oh how I wish I could love them like a Sunday sleep-in

I wish I could love them like a Sunday sleep-in

Up & Underneath

Written By: L.Griffin / G.Horswood

Getting up and over colours
Bruising all the sisters, brothers,
Bend a fingernail until it folds

And keep your fist up in the air with
Power no-one can compare with
Take the breaks
And never fear a fall

Acting like we're powerful

Up and underneath your bedroom door
I'd watch you for
The whole night
Convince me in your loudest whisper
That your mister
Is alright

Working through my wasted weekends
Looking back and feeling freezing
In the warmest arms of any girl

Get me out of where it's burning
And get me into where I'm earning
A point or two, towards my future

Dancing like we're sensual

Up and underneath your bedroom door
I'd watch you for
The whole night
Convince me in your loudest whisper
That your mister
Is alright

Head on back to where you're wanted
Doing everything to flaunt it
And you wonder why I'm so excited?
