Biography

Dreaming It – Never, Living It - Forever…

Lee Lindsey has written songs her whole life. Like most artists, her music tells the story of her life. However, unlike most people who grow up, Lee never abandoned her childhood dream.

Lee’s life begins on the Ottawa River in Canada. She’s traveled, modeled and performed around the world from Toronto to Hamburg, New York to Paris, Nashville to London and back again. She left home at fifteen with a guitar on her back and a dream in her heart. Above the Madding Crowd is a realization of that dream; a collection of her songs inspired by the diverse, emotional terrain of a woman discovering her talent, her voice and her identity as an artist. The recording of the album was an arduous task but the hard work and determination produced exactly the results she was looking for.

"It was a difficult record for me to make," says Lee. "It took a long time to finish and the experience turned my house, my relationships and my self-confidence inside out. The recording process really pushed my buttons. It made me have to face issues within myself and start a completely separate healing process.”

Produced by session wizard and musical director, Jingles (Gabrielle, BB Mak), Above The Madding Crowd features varying degrees of folk, country and roots rock with soulful, Celtic string arrangements. The title track, which references the famous Hardy novel, takes the audience on a journey and tells the universal tale of small-town girl with big dreams and a permanent will.

In addition to her recording and performing activities Lindsey started the London, UK division of Tall Poppy Records, an urban roots and folk rock label, with producer/engineer Jack Guy (INXS, All Saints, Sugababes). That same year, she also started her first publishing arm, Songhearts Music, and began a weekly series of showcases to benefit the London independent music community called Tall Poppy Presents…Lee Lindsey and Friends. The night ran with great success and industry recognition for three and a half years and continues today with the “Best Of” series running at the prestigious Bush Hall. Having moved to Vancouver in 2004 Tall Poppy Records has expanded their brand of showcases to BC and soon to Alberta.

Above The Madding Crowd will be released in early 2007 and Lee Lindsey has big plans to take her show on the road with tentative tours planned for Europe in early 2007 followed by a West Coast tour of British Columbia this summer.

Lyrics

Wild Child

Written By: Lindsey/Robinson

The Arizona night sky is spread with stars
Chevrolet convertible roars along the desert road
Crashing guitars on the radio
Into the wide silence
Ashes from her cigarette blows with the crosswind
One foot on the gas the other on the dashboard
Overtakin in any damn lane she pleases

Cause she’s a wild child
Yeah, she’s a wild child
She’s a wild child
She’s a wild wild wild wild child

She’s heading for the glitterin lights of Tucson
With a sideways smile you don’t know what she’s thinking
She knows where she’s been and knows just where she’s goin

Cause she’s a wild child
Yeah she’s a wild child

At only 19 years she ain’t no angel
God help anyone who tries to tame her
She ain’t got any crosses to bear

Because she’s been there
Yeah, she’s a wild child
She’s a wild child
She’s a wild wild wild wild child
She’s a wild child
She’s a wild child
She’s a wild child
She’s a wild child

Brave

Written By: Lindsey

HEY CAN YOU SEE MY FACE
BRAVE - WHERE ONCE WAS GRACE
SAVE ME FROM THE WORLD TODAY
CAUSE I DON’T WANNA BE HERE
HEY CAN YOU SEE MY FACE
BRAVE - WHERE ONCE WAS GRACE
SAVE ME FROM THE WORLD TODAY
CAUSE I DON’T WANNA BE HERE

AND I WONDER
WHERE I WILL BE GOING
WHEN THE SUN COMES UP
WILL YOU BE THERE FOR ME
WILL THE FLOWERS BLOOM AGAIN FOR ME
CAUSE I DON’T WANNA BE HERE

HEY I’M NOT AFRAID
BRAVE - ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE
TAKE ME SOMEWHERE SAFE
CAUSE I D0N’T WANNA BE HERE

AND I WONDER
WHERE I WILL BE GOING
WHEN THE SUN COMES UP
WILL YOU BE THERE FOR ME
WILL THE FLOWERS BLOOM AGAIN FOR ME

CAUSE I DON’T WANNA BE HERE
I DON’T WANNA BE HERE
NO I I DON’T WANNA BE HERE
DON’T WANNA BE HERE

HEAR MY CRIES FOR MERCY
HEAR MY PRAYERS
I AM TIRED AND THIRSTY WHO IS THERE
TAKE ME TO THE PLACE WHERE I BELONG
I’M COMING HOME
COMIN HOME

AND I WONDER
WHERE I WILL BE GOING
WHEN THE SUN COMES UP
WILL YOU BE THERE FOR ME
WILL THE FLOWERS BLOOM AGAIN FOR ME
CAUSE I DON’T WANNA BE HERE
I DON’T WANNA BE HERE
NO I I DON’T WANNA BE HERE
DON’T WANNA BE HERE

Just A Girl

Written By: Lindsey

Just a Girl Lee Lindsey
Am I original
Do you like what you see
Is it conditional
What do you think when you think of me
Am I ordinary

How can I change my world
When I am just a girl
My head’s beginning to twirl
How can I change my world

Am I forgivable
I’ve made some big mistakes
Are they retrievable
As hard as I give is as hard as I’ll take
It’s up to me to make it

How can I change my world
When I am just a girl
My head’s beginning to twirl
How can I change my world

Am I invincible
It’s all a big disguise
Some say reprehensible
There’s no getting down when there’s mud in your eyes
You’ve got to rise

How can I change my world
When I am just a girl
My head’s beginning to twirl

How can I change my world

Around and around and around and around
Are you listenin

I do have an opinion
Have I made an impression at all

How can I change my world
When I am just a girl
How can I change my world
When I am just a girl

Around and around and around and around and
Are you listenin
I do have an opinion
Have I made an impression
And are you listenin
I do have an opinion
And are you listenin

Journey

Written By: Lee Lindsey

I put on my old leather boots
And I tramped the city streets of Amsterdam
Got a mind to look for clues
Reflections in their eyes of who I am
Smiled to myself
Cause I know that I can help
Help myself

But the journey is long
And the past fades away
Everyone stands alone
On that judgment day
Every fork in the road
Every path that you take
Brings you closer to home
And the journey is long.

Passin peoples starin faces
Going through the motions and wondering why
Is everything that time embraces
Sure to pass and we’re no more the wise
Bound by circumstance to do the best we can
And we can

And the journey is long
And the past fades away
Everyone stands alone
On that judgment day
Every fork in the road
Every path that you take
Brings you closer to home
And the journey is long.

Bill's Song (Remember Me to the World)

Written By: Lee Lindsey and Art Fazil

Well Ol’ Bill he lived across the street

Everyday he’d go out to meet the old ladies in the town

He was nearly ninety-three

Seen two wars lost Marjorie twenty years ago

Oh remember me to the world

Oh remember me to the world

Ol’ Bill he had one brother left alive

He hadn’t seen since sixty-five

And he wouldn’t know him now

He looks at me with his one good eye

And says ‘Man oh man oh man I’m tired

And you’re the only one I got’

Oh remember me to the world

Oh remember me to the world

chorus
And we’ll meet again on a sunny day

On a sunny afternoon

And we’ll sing along to our favourite songs

Singin Vera’s wartime tune

I don’t know how and I don’t know when

But I’m sure we’ll meet again
I Know it now like I knew it then

You’re my friend

Remember me to the world

Oh remember me to the world

Bill your daughter Maureen called for you

Said she was bringin round new shoes

do you wear your old ones still?

Bill you know we’re right here at number two

And if there’s anything we can do

You know we surely will

Oh, I’ll remember you to the world

Oh, I’ll remember you to the world

chorus
Oh Oh remember me to the world

Like a River

Written By: Lee Lindsey/Mike Brayn/Dougie White

The air was still and calm that night in December
People shuffling round town
Drunken fools and working girls
Were chilled and wanted warming
A little cash would go a long long way
A choir of army sisters prayed mercy on our souls
The night would end for some young man
Shot down in the road

And the blood flowed like a river
No rain to wash that sin away
And the blood flowed like a river
That boy ain’t comin’ home today no no

She keeps a candle burning bright by the window
Memories scattered on the floor
Daddy calls to say how much
He really loves her
But he knows she’s better off alone
She glances at the letter she’s holding in her hands
Swears that she’ll be tough enough
To do the best she can oh

chorus
And the blood flows like a river
No rain to wash that sin away
And the blood flows like a river
That boy ain’t comin’ home again

repeat chorus

Like a river oh
And the blood flows like a river oh
Like a river
That boy ain’t comin home
