SPOTLIGHT ON MELBOURNE’S LEE SISSING
An accomplished performer, this multi-talented vocalist hailing from Melbourne has a style all her own and isn’t afraid to show it. Lee Sissing may seem a relative unknown to the greater urban public, but with a career spanning ten years and the spotlight steadily heading her way, there is no denying the truth when talent is this good.
LEE SISSING – SOULSTRESS
Entering the music industry professionally at the age of 16 armed with intense vocal training and a steely determination, Lee Sissing has persevered. Whilst she is flexing her vocal muscles in a support act role, this 28-year-old South African/Filipino beauty packs a punch in the studio and on stage. She’s fast gaining the respect and opportunities reserved for those ready to do the solo run. Lee has been on the road for the last two months as backing support for Melbourne hip-hop artist Phrase on the recent Snoop Dogg Boss'n Up tour of Australia, and also alongside Melbourne soul artist Daniel Merriweather on his support gig of Kanye West’s Touch The Sky Australian tour. Not a bad round of artists to share a stage with. Her performances at both these shows, including a host of others, have been nothing short of electric.
“My versatility makes me a rarity in the urban music industry,” says Lee. “I have performed with so many different artists across so many sub genres of urban music, like hip-hop, soul and R&B. You could ask me to sing a jazz tune in the same breath as belt out the hook on a Phrase track.”
Working closely with the cream of the crop in the Aussie hip-hop and R&B circles, Lee finds herself getting involved in projects that include her touring with Phrase to promote his Talk With Force album, to studio work laying down backing vocals for Daniel Merriweather and SIB, as well as on albums for Brad Strut and J-Skub (Crooked Eye Productions).

Lee Sissing is the soulful and passionate female vocalist behind some of the biggest names in Australia’s urban music scene. Boasting the title “The Hook Queen”, this stunning, diminutive and sexy diva is Melbourne born (of South African / Filipino decent), and has built up an impressive C.V of feature appearances over the years.
The demand for Lee’s talent expands right through the urban music scene in Australia; having collaborated and performed with the cream of Australian Talent, including Jeremy Gregory and soul sensation Daniel Merriweather. Appearing on Universal recording artist MC Phrase’s debut album ‘Talk with Force’ and having recently appeared on the solo debut of another Melbourne hip hop artist Brad Strut (Lyrical Commission), Lee has become the sultry voice in demand when it comes the sounds of hip hop soul in Australia.
Lee has a career set on a musical canvas of international and local colour. She is more than just a pretty face as she brings her powerhouse vocals and performance to the forefront as a vocalist with the undercurrents of pure soul.
With a career in music and dance spanning over half her life, Lee could easily slip into the term of ‘veteran’, but she isn’t about to be pigeonholed right now, with her vocal range containing a rare versatility that has captured audiences across the hip hop and soul genre. Having worked on and been involved in countless tours over the years, Lee has indeed graced the stage alongside some of the hottest superstars including Kanye West, Sean Paul, Snoop Dogg, Rahsaan Patterson, Dj Premier, and Ne –Yo to name a few. Appearing live is like second nature to Lee, who describes the feeling as ‘the biggest high anyone can achieve’. The definitive ‘hip hop girl’, Lee counts her influences as those as varied as her vocal range. From Donny Hathaway and Curtis Mayfield, to Karen Carpenter, Chaka Khan, Sade and Mary J, Lee draws not only vocal inspiration from this list but personal attributes that she aligns with her own musical journey…
Lee’s varied experiences have enabled her to branch her talent into the areas of song writing, choreography, production and teaching. With her first solo album currently under writing construction, Lee is standing strong in ensuring this album is introspective given the turning point she is undergoing at present. With an ethos that is steeped in hard work and commitment to excellence, Lee Sissing is patience personified.
