Bio

It has been said that “you can’t play the blues on a full stomach”. It is from the depths of wisdom and despair that the greatest musical formations are realized.

Left of Zero has brought together 4 talented Toronto musicians who carry that longing for such a musical accomplishment. Their quintessential blend of raw talent, infectious rhythms, haunting melodies AND the desire to express that energy in their art, is what erupts on stage wherever they perform. This is captured in their most recent (self titled) album, a sophomore contribution to the Toronto music circuit having released their first critically acclaimed EP just over a year ago. Relentless and determined, they remain “left of center” and yet still on point. Relevant, disturbed, awakened and alive!

Fronted by Jade Lamarche (vocals/bass) who worked with writer Luis Figueroa (guitar/vocals) in their previous musical collaboration “Bound Ether” in 2004, combined with the addition of DJ/entrepeneur/remixer Derek Edwards blazing lead guitar/vocals, and hard-hitting drummer Adam Boyle (formerly with The Assistants) that completed the finishing touches on Left of Zeros line-up. Together, they solidified their combined efforts into a unified effort that has become a formidable force in todays music scene. It was obvious when they jammed together that first time in the spring of 2007 that there was something going on and it continues to transform in quantum leaps. Their sound is one that cross-pollinates the influences of Britains Radiohead and Portishead, with North Americas Sonic Youth, Metric and Alice in Chains.

Together, they have created a totally unique and yet accessible pop/rock sound that is reminiscent of these classics of the past and present; yet weaving an original set of strong pop sensibilities and thought provoking lyrics that draws on the creativity of these rock, pop, jazz and even folk masterminds. This is “no frills” pop fusion prodigy at its best ... straight to the point with no apologies and no regrets.

Left of Zeros first full length album was recorded at the legendary rock pit, Sleepy Town Music in north Toronto and mixed by veteran producer/engineer Jim Lamarche and engineer/producer Shaun Christie at Shauns “Munik Sideshow Productions” in downtown Toronto using state of the art analog and digital sound production tools.

The one thing that is certain ... Left of Zero will continue to leave their audiences spellbound in the magic and mystery that only comes from their ongoing desire to leave their mark wherever they go.
