Left Turn Only

BandFolkAmericana

Left Turn Only is an acoustic duo playing music within the folk/pop/americana genre. We cover our original music and cover tunes offering captivating ballads, upbeat songs and great vocal harmonies.

Biography

Left Turn Only started in June of 2008 when Lori Kats and Mel Stark decided to share their original music with one another. They found that they had similar writing styles and that vocally, they sounded great together.

Lori plays the guitar and Mel plays the baritone ukulele and both sing, harmonize and play percussion.

Left Turn Only offers a refreshing sound with the acoustic combination of guitar and ukulele, in addition to great stage presence and audience engagement. It is not uncommon to find the audience singing along or tapping their toes to the songs they sing.

Their influences include but are not limited to: Patty Griffin, Nancy Griffith, Indigo Girls, Keith Greeninger, Susan Werner, Natalia Zuckerman, Chris Kokesh, Dirty Martini, and many more.

Wanna Come Back Home

Wanna Come Back Home

I've seen two full moons
wave hello and wave goodbye
I've seen the leaves turn to gold
against this blue October sky

And I've been on the road
for way too long
I've been on the road
and I wanna come back home.

I've got the wind at my back
But the wolf is at my door
He's got something to say
But I don't wanna hear any more

And I've been on the road
for way too long
I've been on the road
and I wanna come back home.

Wanna come back
and see the sun
Wanna come back to you
Wanna come back to the one I love.

These hotels and these heat waves
Start messing with your mind
I'll be home by noon tomorrow
And noon's our favorite time

And I've been on the road
for way too long
I've been on the road
and I wanna come back home.

Wanna come back
Wanna come back home.

Dream This Dream

Dream this Dream

Verse 1

I'd like to know who told us that
Life would be so white and black
I'd like to know who sold us that line
We thought we found our perfect dream
We thought we had the magic team
Some things just start fading over time

Chorus

I don’t wanna dream this dream anymore
Please pull me from this place
And I don’t wanna fight this fight anymore
I’d rather kiss your pretty face
I don’t wanna dream this dream anymore
I’m falling on my knees
I just wanna lay my head in your lap
Baby, please, please.

Verse 2

Five years and we've come to this
Poison arrows, is that our bliss?
Back to back in the middle of the night
If I know one thing then I know this
Your still the one I want to do this with
And bigger mountains are surely there to climb

Chorus

Bridge

Maybe we could drive all night in the rain
Baby, let's do something to help ease this pain...

Verse 3

I don't wanna dream this dream
Something in it makes me scream
And I don't really wanna move on down the line
Our verbal bombs have left their dents
It absolutely makes no sense
And baby you and I got plenty of time

Chorus (2x)

Free Your Pride

Free Your Pride

Verse 1

You're walking on the edge again
There's nothing to hold on to
The Universe holds out her hand There's a bigger plan that calls you.

You've been this way for way too long
You know it deep inside you
Like tears that fall in silent prayer
There's a softer place to fall to.

Chorus

You've gotta free your pride
You've gotta free your pride.

Verse 2
You've heard it now from everyone
The psychics even tell you
Your destiny's a brighter star
The songs are what compel you.

Chorus...
You've gotta free your pride
You've gotta free your pride

Bridge

There's nothing dear
There's nothing left here for you
Like golden skies
The world is ripe for you.

Verse 3

The fear creeps in, you don't know how
It knows just where your holes are
Believe now in that higher power
Once you open up you’ll go far.

Chorus

You've gotta free your pride
You've gotta free your pride
Yeah, free your pride
Yeah, yeah, yeah....

Waiting

Waiting
Music and Lyrics by Melissa Stark

climbing out of bed
day in my head
morning coffee poured
balance is restored

people on the street
meeting their needs
candyman appears
dangling their fears

and their waiting
and their waiting
their waiting
(repeat)

man stands all alone
cold to the bone
he sits down on the street
beggin please please please please

a lady and a child
walkin with a smile
she passes that old man
doesn't lend him a hand

and their waiting
and their waiting
their waiting
(repeat)

for a chance
for hope, for freedom
(repeat)

break

come into the light
preacher says with all his might
aimlessly we come
cause we feel all undone

night time comes again
no money in our hands
we're hungry and we're tired
yet we feel all inspired

and their waiting
and their waiting
their waiting
(repeat)

for a chance
for hope, for freedom
(repeat)
