Bio

Coming from diverse musical and cultural backgrounds, Zenobia, DuPrée and Ben Silver have come together to form LEGACY.

The group packed the house for their 2006 debut concert at Peoples' Voice in NYC. Some comments found on blogs following the concert included "They were amazing. A wonderful blend of voices and personalities and musical styles" and "I'd forgotten what a sacrament music can be... It was communion and reconciliation in one. I am inspired and renewed and wrung out."

Their second concert was a fundraiser at which they raised over $7,000 and afterwards, the presenter (Lisel Burns, Brooklyn Society For Ethical Culture) told them "It was just the most moving night I've been to for many years".

Legacy performs both as a trio and with additional backup musicians The core members are:

Zenobia: Making her Broadway debut at the age of 18 in HAiR she made her living in theatre for over 10 years. When she landed in advertising, the combination of theatrical and recording skills helped her to build a successful career writing jingles, scoring music to film and gained her a reputation for producing award-winning work.

Zenobia was featured in The Weather Girls’ “It’s Raining Men” and has collaborated with distinguished co-writers including Denise Rich, Marti Sharron and Carol Bayer Sager. She has composed, arranged and produced for many artists as well as for the 2000 release of her Grammy nominated debut CD, “Home”.

DuPrée: After years of absence from performing, DuPrée, a visual/performance artist perhaps best known as one of the lead vocalists of Casselberry/DuPrée, returns to the stage. DuPrée’s strong contralto voice encompasses a ‘down-home’ spirituality. She describes her music as social commentary that is “gospelized folk on the verge of country.”

Her artistic expression is filtered through her African American perspective, which runs the gamut of humanitarian concerns from struggle to freedom, compassion, empathy and things that give life meaning. She is currently expanding by incorporating sounds from the Gullah Islands, where she is researching her family and cultural herstory.

Ben Silver: Whether he's in singer/songwriter mode or doing McFerrin-esque vocal improvisations, Ben Silver's music slides through folk, R&B, funk, jazz, and back again. Ben sings passionately about freedom, our environment, LGBT issues, parenting, and even an occasional romantic love song. His writing has been published in Carry It On, Sing Out Magazine, and the book "Hearing Everyone's Voice".

As a teen, Ben was in the movie, “Fame” and on the cast album of the Broadway show, “Runaways”. Since then he has performed and recorded with many artists including Pete Seeger, Pat Humphries, Jay Mankita, and many others. As a member of New Voices of Freedom, Ben also sang background vocals for artists including Melba Moore, Judy Collins, and Celia Cruz.
