The best kept secret in music

This is an up-and-coming band from Ft. Lauderdale that I've recently been introduced to. Since we're not exactly a hotbed of musical creativity down here lately, I've been trying to hear some new local bands. Léger came to me and their singer/guitarist Derek Cruz asked me to check them out, and I'm frankly really impressed. It's sort of ambient, almost space-rock at times, but their music is grounded enough to be accessible to the average listener. Léger is calm, cool, and palatable, three things that are sure to make them a hot commodity once the word gets out. Oh, just for an FYI...they played their first show roughly six months ago and their music sounds this good already...what could we be in store for in the future? - - Tony Pascarella of Absolutepunk.net

"For their debut show, Léger is doing it up with style: rocking in 2006 on a rooftop.

Vocalist and guitarist Derek Cruz, brother and fellow vocalist/guitarist Jordan Cruz, bassist Dave Barnard and drummer Jeff Rosenthal have spent years in other bands but now think they are a combination that works.

That style shines through in their music, with a mix of Ben Folds Five style piano and songwriting that can movie into the minor, dissonant wail of Thom Yorke and Radiohead. The group also dabbles in electronic and ambient sounds, using an array of pedals.

"If you went to Woodstock, you would probably like it," said Derek Cruz.

Léger -- the name is a French word for "light" that the band liked -- is ambitious with a strategy of picking the best shows in South Florida, aiming to tour by next fall and working on a demo to shop to labels.

"We all have a common goal," Derek Cruz said."

"youyouyou" CD / EP Released 2006 on Cruzified Music

It’s not very often that four individuals find themselves contributing to something much larger than the sum of them. Enter Léger. A group of talented musicians earnestly making music that is far beyond their years. Made up of Guitarist / Vocalist Jordan Cruz , Guitarist / Vocalist Derek Cruz, Bassist David Barnard, and Drummer / Percussionist Jeff Rosenthal, Léger looks to push the envelope in every aspect of their music. With comparisons ranging from the cultic ambience of Radiohead to the more recognizable, harmonization of The Beatles, Léger manages to create infectiously catchy pop rock songs without sacrificing the challenge to reveal a darker, more serious side to their compositions and ultimately, their persona.

In the Fall of 2005, the group teamed up with Cruzified Music to record a four song CD/EP entitled "youyouyou." Self releasing the album through Cruzified Productions, a family operated namesake, the band immediately began receiving positive feedback from the material among fans at a number of shows from West Palm Beach to Miami. The group began recording their full length debut "Leave Me Out At Sea" in February of 2006. With a few East Coast Tour on the horizon, Léger seems ready to embrace the next step on their journey of musical enlightenment. As one of the hardest working bands in South Florida, this collective will clearly become a valuable commodity to a crippled music industry in no time.
