Legionnaires: Melody driven indie rock with heavy-handed country and pop influences. Think: The Shins, Grandaddy, Wilco, Old 97s, and XTC all stuck on the U.S.S. Minnow together. That's one great three hour tour.

Legionnaires is a Cincinnati rock supergroup of sorts. Included in the lineup are former members of Crosley, The Breakers, Clabbergirl, and Saving Ray. Combined, the members of Legionnaires have won two CAMMY Awards, showcased at Midpoint Music Festival every year since its inception, and have played at virtually every venue in the midwest, in addition to brief stints in Europe. The members have shared the stage with Rilo Kiley, John Mayer, The Sheila Divine, Super Drag, Nada Surf, The Knack, MOTH, Barenaked Ladies, Howie Day, The Moldy Peaches, and numerous other national and regional acts.

In terms of sound, listeners should know that Legionnaires are not afraid of melody. The band does not sacrifice melody for the sake of being "indie". Legionnaires also draw heavily from classic country and alt-country influences, while achieving a mod sound with the aid of synth hooks and layered guitar work.

Songwriting is the greatest strength of the band, everything else comes to life organically. If you like good songs, you will like Legionnaires.

Your Eyes Defeat Me

Written By: Legionnaires

give up the ghost
i'll break you at the knees
cause I can't let you see
your eyes defeat me

you're incapable of being
the person you aspire to
maybe you should set fire to
the place your dreams live
is that too much
for you to give up

you think that by running round
town to town
you can work it out
seems so simple in your mind
not so simple in life

say it's the same and i won't go away

Is normal too much to ask
don't want glad, just want not sad
i'm 26, i shouldn't be writing this
i should've figured it out when i was a kid

Those tiny tiny acts with implications
So vast they come so fast
I'd say normal's too much to ask

Why can't i let it go
if this was an act, i'd of sold out a week of shows
it's a shame when you think you can't trust your friends
when the doubt-steeped side of your lop-sided mind it wins

I'm a wreck you don't wanna be my getaway driver
she's a mess, maybe that's why i like her
she says i think you're coming apart
i said you've unraveled me like a ball of yarn

Legionnaires are currently in the studio working on an LP, to be released in the Fall of 2006.

Set List

Legionnaires' set is typically ten songs, forty minutes. Covers sometimes work their way into the mix, usually in the form of an obscure indie ballad or nicely reworked cheese-pop song (ie - Neil Diamond's "Forever in Blue Jeans").
