LEISHA J HARVEY

Leisha J

Leisha Harvey began her musical instructions at the age of three studying Suzuki Method piano from the Yamaha School of Music. She has studied saxophone since 1995, beginning in middle school band, and studied throughout high school with Ray Spires, Mark Trotter, and David Fry.

Ms. Harvey earned a B.A. degree in Music from Brevard College in Brevard, NC, 1999. While at Brevard she studied classical and jazz saxophone under the instruction of many great musicians and teachers to include David Kirby, Joe Gudmunson, Benjamin Boone, and James Houlick, as well as attended many master classes with names such as Ernie Watts, Branford Marsalis, and Lenny Pickett. She also studied jazz vocals and improvisation with Elliot Wadopian and March Yaxley. Ms. Harvey served as Lead Alto Saxophonist, Lead Tenor Saxophonist, and featured vocal soloist in the Brevard College Jazz Ensemble. She also performed on clarinet and saxophone in the symphonic winds and Brevard Sax Quartet.

While attending college, Ms. Harvey started performing throughout the southeast and at many venues with her own band. She has toured with many professional stage bands such as Still Cruzin, Gypsy Soul, New Horizon Band, and the reggae all stars, just to name a few. Ms. Harvey has also shared the stage with many gospel musicians. Currently, Ms. Harvey works as Intake Service Coordinator in the Service Coordination Division of the Anderson County Disabilities and Special Needs Board in Anderson, SC. She also performs for churches, weddings, private parties, etc. and continues to teach private saxophone, vocal, and piano lessons. Ms. Harvey has just recently released her first gospel jazz recording “ Happiness is you”. Since the release of her CD, Leisha has been busy promoting her CD by being a special guest musician at area churches. Leisha was also a featured soloist at Anderson College Gospel Choir’s 2008 gospel extravaganza. Leisha is very active supporting the community youth organization, Miracles. Leisha has a natural ear for music and can play, improvise, and write music of all genres. Leisha also has an extensive background in poetry, creative writing, and theater. Leisha currently resides in Anderson, SC with her husband Derrick and their three children Miles, Jordan, and Destiny. Leisha plays for the organizations functions on regular bases. Leisha continues to work in her called ministry of music and continues to bless the lives of others with her music.
