"Top 5 Local Bands on the Rise in Providence (The Providence Music Examiner)"

5. Lemon Lime Tennis Shoes: The 7-piece ska/punk band from the Warwick and East Providence areas of Rhode Island has had quite a go in the music scene in the biggest little since the band's formation in 2003. The members of the group consist of Matt Kelley on vocals and guitar, brother Jon Kelley on drums, Brian Riendeau on bass, Wade Zawatsky on trumpet, Paul Dussault on saxophone, David Clemons on keyboards and backing vocals and Mike Burnham on lead guitar. The band's sound has tastes of three major types of music rolled up into one huge ball that'll make you skank your shoes off. Rhythmic Reggae, catchy Punk Rock, and a heavy dose of rudeness in the name of Ska combine to make the band remind you of bands & musicians like Madness, The Specials, Peter Tosh, Operation Ivy, Bad Manners, and even The Clash. The band has remained busy for the past 6 years writing and touring New England, and even putting out an album in 2007 titled "Take It or Leave It" on White Noise Records that has become one of the most popular local albums over the past 2 years. Lemon Lime Tennis Shoes proves itself worthy with the album, with songs like "Final Decision", "Selective Service", "Save The World" and "Look In The Mirror" makes the band a force to be reckoned with. The band recorded the album after they won a battle of the bands put on by White Noise along with national record store chain FYE, winning an all expenses-paid record deal and putting "Take It or Leave It" on the shelves of every FYE store in the New England area. Recently, the band opened for The Misfits at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel along with local metal band Acerose, and the legendary Sasquatch & The Sick-A-Billys the day after Halloween on November 1st. The band is still fairly young with most of the members still under 25 years of age and from what it looks like, these guys will keep Rhode Island skanking in the pits for a long time. - Rob Duguay

Bio

Lemon Lime Tennis Shoes is a seven piece Ska/Punk band based out of Warwick, RI. The group was formed in 2003 and is as feisty as ever. Having been together for many years now, the band has seen sights and performed all around New England, most recently opening for The Aquabats!, The English Beat and The Misfits at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence.
Releasing and performing new original music has been the most current happenings of the band, with “Party Hats & Hand Grenades/four song EP” being the latest installment of new music. LLTS has come a long way over the past few years, and the best is right around the corner. New for spring 2010, this release will be available in April.
Their sound contains three main ingredients; Roots Reggae, catchy Punk Rock, and a heavy dose of soulful Ska. For the new EP, lead singer Matt Kelley has gone deeper in his lyrics than ever before, featuring songs about losing a loved one, distancing friends, and letting out skeletons that have been hiding for years. An example of this can be seen in the new song “Johnny Cash,” as well as the professional Music Video for ‘Wave the White Flag,’ which was written about the frustrations of being in the music business.
The next mission is playing the WBRU Rock Hunt in Spring of 2011 and releasing their next E.P.!
