Biography

Erick Bohorquez's musical passion sprouted early and often. During his childhood, Erick learned chords by watching his father play rhapsodies on an old vintage organ at home. Shortly thereafter, Erick learned to play the guitar, as well as other instruments, always drawing from the inspiration of his father’s love for life and song. After the sudden passing of his father, Erick's creative outlet, to play music, became a personal and spiritual ambition.

In 2001, during his college years, Erick traveled to Spain and studied flamenco guitar, bringing on Andalusian rhythms and strummed sonatas. One year later, after his studies in Europe, he graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and decided to try his luck in the music industry. He packed his bags and moved to LA, where he got his start at Elektra Records. However, he longed to be with his Texas friends and family, so he left California in 2004 and moved back to Austin, landing a job as the Regional Manager of Marketing and Promotions at Island/Def Jam Records. He was the go-to person in charge of managing Universal Music Group artists, while developing and maintaining relationships with radio, press, and retail. He contributed to numerous #1 hits and received many accolades, including 2005 Major Record Label of the Year.

In 2006, Erick parted from Def Jam and quickly shifted his focus to writing, recording, and playing live music. With the help of his confidants, he co-founded the Roots Reggae, Latin, Dub group called Don Chani, embracing the role of lead guitarist and vocalist. Today, Don Chani has shared the stage with reggae greats such as The Skatalites, Culture, Eek A Mouse, Luciano, Sister Carol, The Wailing Souls, Morgan Heritage, The Mighty Diamonds, Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars, and The Meditations. The band, having released its first album “From the Hilltops” and a corresponding dub album, “Dub the Hilltops," has been receiving considerable press, radio, interviews, and TV exposure.

In March 2010, inspired by his new life as a father, Erick completed a children's album called LENNON'S SONG. His self-produced album entitled, "We Love, We Learn, We Grow" evokes heartfelt warmth and has been described as, “sure to put a smile on any face.” With its infectious pop/rock and world influences, the album beckons feelings of friendship and has been described as the “Grateful Dead for kids.” Recently placed 2nd in Songwriting competition for ASG. Today, Erick continues to make music with his band, friends, and family alongside his beautiful wife and son.

Lyrics

We Love, We Learn, We Grow

Written By: Erick Bohorquez

And how the leaves sway without a care in the world
And how the birds in the park just sing along
And how the bees buzzin round the flowers today
And how they getting all that pollen for that honey in May
And how the rain falls and waters everything
And how the day turns to night most definitely
And how the moon shines all over the world
And how the big bright sun warms us up everyday

We love, we learn, we grow

And how the wind moves with such a delicate sway
And how the grass seems to dance in the most peculiar way
And how the ocean has a motion that’ll rock you to sleep
And how a ship sets sail and moves from sea to sea
And how a wind chimes and carries sound to my ears
And like a mother to her baby, a love that’s so sincere
And how our words come together to communicate
And how a simple act of kindness can regenerate

We love, we learn, we grow

Let the wheels start turning
Let the wheels start turning
Let the wheels start turning in your head

Love

Written By: Erick Bohorquez

Love is simple. Love is true
Love is something we should do
Love is patient. Love is sweet.
Love straight knocks you off your feet.
And if your down it picks you up
Swing you round till you can’t see
Oh and what a magical mystery.
This thing called love it will make you sing.

Love is sacred. Love is true.
Love is perfect. So are you.
Love is giving. Love is free.
Love takes root just like a tree.
Growing, growing endlessly.
It’s what makes life, so plant the seed.
In the lives of all you see.
This thing called love it will set you free

Love is lasting. Love is all.
Love can hurdle the tallest wall.
Love sees you and love sees me.
Love for all eternity.
And if loves what your looking for
Then look no more walk thru the door.
Of positivity and hope
This thing called love it will make hearts sing

L-O-V-E that means you, that means me, that means love.

Growing Up

Written By: Erick Bohorquez

Growing up is fun to do
You get to play outside and learn to tie your shoes
Growing up so much to do
Growing up is fun

Growing up so much to see
You get to learn new things
You get to climb a tree
Growing up so much to see
Growing up is fun

And if you’re ever feelin down
You’ve got to know that I’ll be around
But if you still are feelin down
You’ve got to hold your head up high
Hold your head up high
High to the sky

Growing up it’s plain to see
You get to meet new friends
You get to play with me
Growing up so much to see
Growing up is fun

Growing up is fun and free
You get to learn to read
You get to sing with me
Growing up so fun and free
Growing up is fun

And if you’re ever feeling down
You’ve got to know that I’ll be around
But if you still are feeling down
You’ve got to hold your head up high
Hold your head up high
High to the sky

Summertime

Written By: Erick Bohorquez

Summertime is easy cuz were going out and playin
It’s ok to move along if you like what I’m sayin
Move you feet. Clap your hands.
Move along to the beat of this song.
Stomp your feet. Clap your hands
Move along to the beat of this drum

Summertime is easy cuz were going out and playin
It’s ok to sing along if you like sayin
Move you feet. Clap your hands.
Move along to the beat of this song.
Stomp your feet. Clap your hands.
Move along and help me sing this song.

It’s summertime. In the city

Summertime is easy because school is out of session.
It’s ok to play all day cuz life is one big lesson.
Move your feet. Clap your hands.
Sing this song and let us all get along.
Stomp your feet. Clap your hands
Move along to the beat of this song.

Summertime is easy cuz it’s time for being silly.
All that shakin shakin got me acting quite so silly.
Move your head. Clap your hands.
Move along to the beat of this song.
Stomp your feet. Clap your hands.
Move along and now let’s finish this song.

It’s summertime. It’s so pretty.

Use Your Imagination

Written By: Erick Bohorquez

Oh my my. It’s unbelievable.
I swam in the ocean with the fishes in the deep blue sea

Oh my my. It’s just incredible.
I swung in the jungle with the monkeys in the tall tall trees

You gotta learn to swim; you got some things to do
You gotta go outside, you got to get to school
You got to comb your hair; you got to brush your teeth.
You gotta say hello, goodbye, and please.

It doesn’t matter, just use your imagination
Use your imagination you’ll see

Oh my my. It’s just incredible
I flew with the eagles over mountains in the bright blue sky.

Oh my my. It’s just so wonderful.
I roared like a lion in his den on my safari.

You gotta use your head; you got some things to do,
You gotta go out early, gotta make your bed
You got to give with ease; you gotta share your things,
You got to love all people, you gotta try new things

It doesn’t matter, just use your imagination
Use your imagination you’ll see

Lennon

Written By: Erick Bohorquez

Bestower of the riches. Ruler of the sun.
I don’t know what your doing but I do know that you are my son.
And if you have a heart, a heart that’s just like me
We’ll travel cross the country making people smiley.
And with our instruments, making musical sense.
Staying close together that’s what makes a family.

You are the passion. The passion in my heart.
And the inspiration to make a new start.

Bestower of the riches. Ruler of the sun.
And now that I have met you I know that you’re my son.
And with our hearts combined, and knowing all is fine.
We could the spread the message of love, hope, and what’s divine.
And now that is makes sense, we use our instruments
To gather and unite one people
Love your brethren

You are the passion. A passion that’s so sweet, and with my inner
guidance it moves me to my feet.

Bestower of the riches. Ruler of the sun.
Together we will travel making our family one.
And know that you are here; I’m here to hear you out.
And answer any questions your having any doubt.
So with that being said, let’s move around instead
Spreading positivity because with Jah Jah we are fed.
