The recipe for your very own Len!!!! Take a bunch of Indigo Girls, a handful of classic style Van Morrison and James Taylor, mix well with some Dave Matthews and Spirit of the West, then lightly season with some Jeff Buckley and Ani Difranco. Best enjoyed with friends.

Biography

“I was 8 years old when it happened. A religious experience if you like. I discovered the music from the movie version of The Jungle Book. ‘The Bare Necessities’ triggered the dormant music addiction gene and I was off. You would find me most days of my childhood strumming a tennis racket ‘playing musician’. I grew up in a house full of music; from Ella Fitzgerald, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, to the Beatles and Van Morrison. Most importantly was the music of The Dubliners and The Chieftains-the sounds of my mother’s Irish native land and history. I also grew up travelling a great deal with my parents as they slowly moved across Canada in search of stable work and a place to settle. This coloured me with an appreciation for the real and sometimes desolate beauty of this country and that life is a long and winding road.”

This childhood was the seeds for a story teller and a gifted singer/songwriter. When you see Len Ottesen live you understand the impact that music has had on his soul and that he will do everything he can to give you a little piece of him. With an understanding of pop/rock sensibilities as well as a true empathy for many current socio-political issues, Len has crafted songs that balance folk inspired acoustic driven music with reflections on the joy and frustration of modern life. In the beautiful but cluttered landscape of new music, Len Ottesen wants us to have great music that is honest and creative, that burns inside your mind like it does within his.

He has been ‘cooking’, as he says, the last several years in a couple of bands and feels that his music and words are ready to stand on their own. With experience and industry praise from venerable record production veterans, a fantastic live show and a forth coming EP, ladies and gentlemen here he is, Len Ottesen.

Lyrics

Blue

Written By: Len Ottesen

Wading the desert of suffering.
Small things find their way to the offering.
Highway noise so black and worn down.
Movie cool in your kidney pool, sad as a clown.

The suburban rain, soaks the stain through you.
Your so sad in love and all your dreaming of is the blue.
Step lightly on the swollen rain, I cross an ocean on my way to you
Hoping you never stay, blue.

Hair tied back bent over, weak and cold.
You struggle through the sign of the cross.
Rendered so insignificant you fold.
Shivers up and down my spine, for what we have lost.

Step lightly on the swollen rain, I cross an ocean on my way to you
Hoping you never stay, blue.

The suburban rain, soaks the stain through you.
Your so sad in love and all your dreaming of is the blue.
Step lightly on the swollen rain, I cross an ocean on my way to you
Hoping you never stay, blue.

Eclipsed

Written By: Len Ottesen

There’s treachery in the ground.
I better go before I forget how to walk.
It’s always the same condition.
Too many hills that turn into mountains.
I forget what a good day feels like.
Where does the sun go when its tired?
We need to got there now.
To honest land, our hearts can plough.

Did you see the sunset, last night?
The stars came out, the moon was just right.
In the sand my fingers searched for yours.
To smooth the sadness and the soars.

We’ve got our tickets for the bus.
Standing in the rain, soaking in our thoughts.
Is there work in no where’s land today?
They told us loudly, held us closely stay.
Where’s the moral, the stitching of the end?
This life implores us not to break just bend.

Did you see the sunset, last night?
The stars came out, the moon was just right.
In the sand my fingers searched for yours.
To smooth the sadness and the soars.
Did you see the sunset last night?
When the moon, eclipsed the night.
