Bio

The origins of Len Sander lie somewhere around 2005, when a loose formation of brothers and sisters, cousins and friends started playing gigs for their family and friends. Only over the years the group started taking shape, defining not only its six permanent members but also the character of its sound, influenced by as many different styles as trip hop, electronica, pop, jazz and funk. Now, Len Sander's sound-constructs have been described by media as “Spanish words, shaken by groovy jazz and electro-beats”. However, the group is still not willing to commit to one style: it mixes whatever sounds well.
Len Sander's singer, Mirjam Inauen, brings in a soft Spanish voice and very personal, mostly melancholic lyrics about the various facets of human relationships. Alessandro Hug on the Rhodes piano, currently a student in jazz composition, and Simon Inauen on the synthesizers provide Len Sander's sound with an atmospheric fundament. Dennis Schaerer accompanies them on the guitar, sometimes with repetitive and neat patterns, sometimes with outstanding solos. Finally, Flavio Schoenholzer on the bass and Markus Bruetsch on the drums bring in the groove.
In 2009, the six musicians retreated into their rehearsal bunker for almost exactly a year, until they felt that their compositions were ready to be performed on stage. Just before they started a small tour to different Swiss cities, they released their first EP “Organik” and offered it for free on their website. The mini-album, which consists of four tracks, was downloaded over a thousand times within the first weeks.
In March 2011, the Zurich X-TRA club, the music website restorm.com and finally Morcheeba's management itself selected Len Sander out of 130 bands to perform as Morcheeba's supporting act. Len Sander's 30-minute performance at the sold out concert enthused the audience as well as the critics.
