That voice. Leo James Conroy has a naturally rich tone, inflected with jazz, folk and pop influences on his 2015 debut EP. He hits a lot of notes, but also finds time to let sounds play out emotionally, a mix of virtuosity and raw tenderness that is goose-bump tingling at its peak. His music is mostly in quiet pastures and his minimal moments sound best - see “I Only Pray When I Am Desperate” for Conroy’s strongest vocal on the EP, especially the top half accompanied only by an acoustic guitar. The pop-soul moments work as well - there are pointed gospel influences that legitimately add a spiritual overcoat to Conroy’s music. Best yet, Conroy just quietly released his prettiest song to date, the entrancing, even heavenly “Like Ink”. Leo James Conroy is a British Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist currently based in Los Angeles, CA. Drawing influence from folk, soul, jazz and blues his vocals mix powerful, raspy soul with intricate, breathy falsettos atop emotive melodies. Coupled with a warm, fuzzy-toned electric guitar and vintage jazz trumpet his live performances have won over audiences across the globe.
