"Leo Blais "Slow Drivin""

Leo Blais, "Slow Drivin"
Quit dissing Lowell. If people weren’t so dangerously literal, we’d say there’s something in the water there, since the exuberant pop of the title track to Leo Blais’s new maxi-single sure doesn’t sound as if it came from a gloomy place. A safe place, sure, but not a gloomy one. - MICHAEL BRODEUR - The Phoenix

Bio

His voice will instantly grab you. His vocal range is soaring and emotive, and its ability to wrench your soul is only bested by the way it will drop your jaw. When you combine this with his heart rendering and indisputably catchy lyrics, you see an artist who is able to put you inside the song, making you feel as if the song is yours only. It’s a connection anyone who sees or hears Leo for the first time makes. While sharing the stage with acts such as, Snow Patrol, Sam Roberts Band, Youth group, Dispatch, The Neighborhoods, and The Dresden Dolls, audiences and a wide range of artists have been floored by Leo’s performances.

More and more people have begun to agree with what others already know that it’s a rare find when you hear Leo Blais.

The Album

He released his first solo effort in 2003, an EP called Beethoven Never Heard This, which was recorded with 2 –time Boston Music Award Producer of the Year Winner, David Minehan at Woolly Mammoth Sound. The title was a “play on words” from a Charles Bukowski book entitled Shakespeare Never Did This.

In 2004, teaming up once again with David Minehan, they started out on a task of recording over 35 songs worth of material, 12 of which are included on Everyone’s Feelin Alone, his first LP due out in the summer of 2008. With a talented group that included Hammond B-3 virtuoso Keith Hollis, Boston roots rock legends Dave Westner and Sean Staples of Jabe, as well as a 4-piece string section and many other talented musicians, Leo went into the studio with players that just breathed music.

His new single, 'Slow Drivin.' boasts 5 total tracks, 4 b-sides, which includes a version of George Harrison's song, 'Beware of Darkness,' as well as the sonically beautiful track 'This Life.'

Two of the tracks from this release have been uploaded on this page to fulfill your audio listening needs! Leo and his band have been on hiatus in regards to touring for the past few years, but they're excited to begin playing shows once again this coming spring.

About the Artwork

1800 letters and many gallons of paint, it took Leo over two years of constructing, painting, and displaying to get the artwork ready for the Everyone’s Feeling Alone LP. Using an X-acto knife, a sharpie marker, and quite a bit of patience, Leo carved out all of the letters that make up each of the lyrics and liner notes inside the album. Everyone of the song titles are hand painted and shaded gray for a 3-dimensional look. The album is actually a wrap around of his apartment in Lowell, MA. The photos on the album were taken by professional photographer, Ryan K. Wall, and every image you see is real and proportionate.

A video interview on his artwork for the album can be viewed on this page as well. Leo discusses why he set out to create the album artwork in this manner and also tells you a little bit about himself and what motivates him. You also get a tour of the artwork in one of the many stages of construction.

The Environment/ Carbon-neutral

Leo is also taking a progressive approach to the environment, ensuring that Everyone’s Feeling Alone and its subsequent touring will both be Carbon Neutral. The Carbon Footprint made by making the LP will be offset by the planting of trees in forests that have been ravaged by wildfires. He also purchases carbon offsets through Native Energy to help lower his carbon impact.

***Recently his song 'Show Me Love' was used in a new Dunkin Donuts commercial that broadcasted in primetime during American Idol, SNL, The Office, 30 rock, and many more.
