Les Alexander

BandAmericanaCountry

To fit a genre, I'd say my songs are Americana. Original music straight from the heart. Everyday average folks kinda music about real life, love, loss, little moments, and family. Delivered passionatly with honesty and believability.

Biography

I was told several years ago by Jeff Steel, husband of Janie Fricke, that when I write...write about what I know, what's real, what's important, and if its a strong enough idea, it will be timeless.
These are the types of songs I strive to write and deliver in each performance. I have endless opportunities for material with the ups and downs of life, and the foundation of a strong family. Most of my songs center on relationships, and the one that is most important to me...the one with my family. My wife and I have been blessed with 7 beautiful children in 12 years of marriage. While providing for the family at my daytime job, managing two businesses of my own, and chasing my musical dreams at night, I've been given the grace to be able to juggle it all and walk the fine line of balance in my work and home life. I'm always looking for the opportunity that gets me in front of the right person to make make my music dreams a reality. I think that opportunity is just one more song, one more performance, and one more little moment away. Dreaming out loud...

At Home

Written By: Les Alexander

I stopped by the mailbox at the end of our drive
Staring at the house and the kids in the yard
I’ve worked hard all week long to make our ends meet
The forty hours that I put in was the best that I could give
Rise:
Now I know what I’ve got to do
I need to spend some time with you
I need to put some time in at home

Chorus:
At home where my baby’s waitin’
At home where my kids are playin’
At home where I long to be
At home where I know they need me
At home where I’ll mend what’s broken
At home where true love is spoken
At home where I’ll get my rest
At home where I’ve been blessed

As I pull in the driveway
I see you wave at me and smile
The kids go run and hide
For me to come and find
The hard miles I’ve been loggin’
Fade to a memory
When you hold me in your arms
Your love is all I feel

Pre Chorus:
Now I know what I’ve got to do
I need to spend some time with you
I need to put some time in a home

Another Day In Paradise

Written By: Les Alexander

The work’s piled high for this good ole boy
Over his head tryin’ to meet deadlines
(And) the boss man says that he’s fallin’ behind
(Though you’re a) family man you’ll need to tow the line

What’s a guy gotta do but the best that he can
(So) he takes a deep breath and then tells himself

Chorus:
It’s another day in paradise
The sun is shinin’ and I’m stuck inside
Waitin’ for the tropical winds to blow
(But) I can’t feel a thing cause this room’s too cold
Sailin’ away on an island bound ship
(I can) hardly wait to get there but it’s all in my head
Reality’s cruel and brings my back to my life
Where it’s another day in paradise

There’s a housewife who makes do with what she has
She balances the budget and pays all the bills
(And though) Her house is a wreck and she’s up to her ears
She takes pride in her family and the joy that they bring

How she longs to get away she could use a vacation
Fun in the sun and some grown-up conversation

Chorus
It’s another day in paradise
The sun is shinin’ and I’m stuck inside
Waitin’ for the tropical winds to blow
(But) I can’t feel a thing cause this room’s too cold
Sailin’ away on an island bound ship
(I can) hardly wait to get there but it’s all in my head
Reality’s cruel and brings my back to my life
Where it’s another day in paradise

The two of them have had a long hard week
(So) they slip on something comfy and put up their feet
Both too tired to paint the town
Their day-to-day lives got ‘em feelin’ pinned down

They turn to each other and reminisce
They wonder out loud is there more than this?

Chorus
It’s another day in paradise
The sun is shinin’ and we’re stuck inside
Waitin’ for the tropical winds to blow
(But) We can’t feel a thing cause this room’s too cold
Sailin’ away on an island bound ship
(We can) hardly wait to get there but it’s all in our head
Reality’s cruel and brings us back to our lives
Where it’s another day in paradise

Southbound To Bakersfield

Written By: Les Alexander

Chorus:
I’m 99 southbound headed out for Bakersfield
Rollin down the highway behind a big 18 wheeler
I try to stay behind him while I look out for the CHP
As I go flying down the highway headed out for Bakersfield

She called me last night about a quarter to one
And told me how she missed me and she needed my love
She got my motor runnin and I told her I’d be there soon…

(I said) Girl you gotta let me get off of this phone
So I can grab my keys and burn up the road
I wanna be with you too, and I’ve been waitin oh so long...

Chorus:

Music Break: (length of Chorus)

Eighty miles an hour down this lonesome highway
I’m thinking bout tomorrow knowin that I’ll be
Locked up in my baby’s arms from now on…

Tearin down the road I’ve got no time to lose
The pedal on the floor is this all that she’ll do?
Just a couple more hours’ sweet darlin' and I’ll be there with you

Hard Time With Goodbye

Written By: Les Alexander

It’s been a long night
And I think I’m ready to go now
But I’m sure glad we had this talk

No, I’ll be just fine
And I appreciate your concern
Yeah, you can hold my keys
(Cause) I could use the walk

Bridge:
The midnight air might clear my head
While I’m wanderin’ aimlessly…
Which is somethin’ that I’ve been doin'
Since she made up her mind to leave...

Chorus
Here I am and there she goes
Where she’s headed, I don’t know
I’m findin’ that I keep askin’ why
(Guess) I’m havin’ a hard time with…goodbye

Walkin’ down Main Street
My mind pours over the memories…
They’ve come crashin’ in like waves in a storm

I’m passin’ that café
Where we’d spend our Sunday mornin’s
And dream of our future hand in hand

I don’t understand how I lost your love
Can’t believe you’re really gone…
Was it somethin’ I did or didn’t do?
Can you tell me where we went wrong?

Chorus
Here I am and there she goes
Where she’s headed, I don’t know
I’m findin’ that I keep askin’ why
I’m havin’ a hard time with…goodbye

Bridge:
Maybe in time I’ll be all right
Broken hearts need time to mend
I know tomorrow’s another day
But she’ll be on my mind again...

Chorus
Repeat: Goodbye

(Will You) Still Talk To Me

Written By: Les Alexander

I was tucking my son in when he asked me
Daddy will you die?
I said yes I will but hopefully
Not for a long time

Tears filled his eyes
His voice trembling
He wanted to know
More about heaven

Will you be an angel?
Will you have wings?
Will you live in the clouds?
Will you stay there and sing?

Chorus:
Daddy will you still talk to me?
The way that you are now
I love you and I don’t want you to go
I need you more than Jesus does
Daddy I want you to stay here with me
Always………
Daddy if I pray
Will you, still talk to me?

I was stunned by the questions of my small boy
We both wept as I held him close
I wondered how to answer him best
A lump in my throat, a pound in my chest

Tears filled my eyes
My voice trembling
I told him all I knew…
About heaven

I wont’ be an angel
I won’t have wings
I won’t live in the clouds
But I’ll sing in the Kingdom
Again he said…

Chorus:
Daddy will you still talk to me?
The way that you are now
I love you and I don’t want you to go
I need you more than Jesus does
Daddy I want you to stay here with me
Always………
Daddy if I pray
Will you, still talk to me?

Son, I don’t know what tomorrow
Will bring………
But I’ll be listening for you
To talk to me
Oh son, I’m so glad that you
Talked to me

Sacrifice

Written By: Les Alexander

The breeze passes swiftly over my land…
Sittin’ on this porch I’m one hurtin’, broken hearted man
Our time together is like dust in the wind
Ohh, ohh…ohh, ohh…

Thinkin’ about you and all the long days and lonely nights
Goin’ back on the road with nothing but my memories and time
This bein’ without you surely tears me up inside
Ohh, ohh…yeah I tell myself…

Chorus:
One of these days I’m gonna break these chains that bind me
I’m gonna find us a better way to get by...
(But) right now that’s the way things have to be
And though it’s killin’ me…we’ve got to
Make this sacrifice

Our babies are growin’ like a weed…
They’ve got your smile, but they’re lookin’ more like me
(And) I’ve made some promises I’m findin’ hard to keep
Ohh…yes I am…

You’re holdin’ strong and tell me everything is fine
(But) I see it in your eyes what’s weighing on your mind
Clingin’ to a hope that someday soon we’ll see a sign
Ohh…no it won’t be long…
