Biography

LESLEY BETH is a Sydney, Australia-based artist and part-time teacher who now spends most of her time composing imaginative, melodic entertaining music for children that also includes educational or informative content.

In 1999, Lesley Beth released her first album - Jazzles Alphabet Clever Songs, an enriching 30 song CD that enabled young children and non-English speaking individuals to learn English language skills.

The album has achieved over 10,000 sales worldwide - plus excellent reviews including one from the American Library Association Booklist magazine -encouraging Lesley Beth to get to work on new releases, Swishy Friends and Oceans of Wonder - released Fall of 2004.

These two new albums are unique, entirely dedicated in song, to exploring the beauty and splendor of the ocean.

With these releases Lesley Beth fills in the gap for the need for music that’s family oriented and appropriate for children older than the pre-school age.

The CDs have now been followed by the 'Swishy Friends' Hi-Def Widescreen DVD - taking eight of the best songs from the CDs and setting them to spectacular underwater footage from two of the world's best marine cinematographers.

The DVD will be released in Fall 2005 and is slated for distribution through all major retailers. It includes four interactive option including Karaoke - plus a spectacular screen saver turning TV and PC Monitor screens into a dramatic "Ocean of Wonder".

Lesley Beth composes, arranges and produces the songs and then creates the artwork for the materials that accompany each one of her releases on CD-ROM. She also directed the editing of the DVD, selecting footage from over 40 hours of source material.

Lesley Beth sees beyond the music, she sees what the people listening to her songs can do, once her songs have touched them. "I love beauty in life presenting nature in an entertaining way—without a lot of verbiage,” explains Lesley Beth.

“With song I can help the environment by engaging a younger audience to enjoy nature. As an educator I can help children become aware of the environment and the hazards to it, and motivate them to help. It takes a lot of people to make change; these songs can add so many more people.” Lesley Beth began her career as a songwriter and producer after taking the time to raise her family. Lesley Beth mixes musical styles when she writes her songs, so the listener is constantly surprised and engaged as each tune rolls by. Children and adults all over the world enjoy the music and the refreshing message from Lesley Beth. A visual artist, a composer and an educator—Lesley Beth does it all.

Swishy Friends

Written By: Lesley Beth

If I had a wish
I would be a fish!
Swimming, darting in and out
With all my swishy friends about.
But it’s never cool – to be a fool
In a school that has one special,
-Just one special – one important rule!

Don’t Get Eaten!
You could be a tasty morsel
For a creature with a dorsal.
If you want to be a winner
Don’t end up as someone else’s dinner!

If I had a wish
I would be a fish!
Swimming, darting in and out
With all my swishy friends about.
But its never cool – to be a fool
In a school that has one special,
Just one special – one important rule!

Don’t Get Eaten!

You must always take a look
To see your dinner has no hook.
If you want to be a winner
Don’t end up as someone else’s dinner!

If I had a wish
I would be a fish!
Swimming, darting in and out
With all my swishy friends about.
But its never cool – to be a fool
In a school that has one special,
Just one special – one important rule!

Don’t Get Eaten!

I would be a fish.

If I had a wish.

I would be a fish!

Sea Otter Rap

Written By: Lesley Beth

In giant kelp forests – full of life
From their canopy – to sea bed
Rife with crabs, sea urchins, abalone
Engaging sea otters – swim there freely.

With lungs enlarged – adapted eye sight
To see my prey – in the filtered light.
With undulating body and strong webbed feet
I dive with speed – finding food to eat.

In giant kelp forests swim there freely.

In giant kelp forests – full of life
From their canopy – to sea bed
Rife with crabs, sea urchins, abalone
Engaging sea otters – swim there freely.

With minutes under – the time I need
To find shelled creatures on which to feed.
I catch and carry – in dexterous paws
I’m fitted with strong – retract-able claws.

In giant kelp forests swim there freely.

In giant kelp forests – full of life
From their canopy – to sea bed
Rife with crabs, sea urchins, abalone
Engaging sea otters – swim there freely.

I zoom to the surface without any help
So I don’t drift – I’m wrapped in kelp.
While resting and floating – on my back
The tasty crustaceans I pummel and crack.

In giant kelp forests swim there freely.

In giant kelp forests – full of life
From their canopy – to sea bed
Rife with crabs, sea urchins, abalone
Engaging sea otters – swim there freely.

To stay in chilly seas – warm and alive
For food very often - I must dive
My juicy banquets I enjoy each day
And this is how – I live and play.

In giant kelp forests swim there freely.

In giant kelp forests swim there freely.

In giant kelp forests swim there freely.

Let Me Go

Written By: Lesley Beth

I am a baby fish – I live in the sea.
I eat, I grow, I swim there happily.
My home is in the sea and that’s where I love to be!
I’m still so very young and so very small
And if you catch me, then I won’t grow at all!
So be my friend, let me go.

So I’ll grow - Let me go.

I am a baby fish – I live in the sea.
I eat, I grow, I play there happily.
My home is in the sea and that’s where I love to be!
For those of you who care about my home the sea.
Keep oceans pollution free - safe for you and me!
Safe for you, and for me!

Safe for you - And for me!

I am a baby fish – I live in the sea.
With all my swishy friends I play happily.
My home is in the sea and that’s where I love to be!
One day a kind fisherman caught me on his line.
Said “You’re too small, I’ll let you go so you can grow”.
He let me go, now I’ll grow.

Let me go – So I’ll grow.

I am a baby fish – I live in the sea.
I eat, I grow, I swim there happily.
My home is in the sea and that’s where I love to be!
I’m still so very young and so very small.
And if you catch me, then I won’t grow at all!
So be my friend - Let me go.

So I’ll grow.

Let me go.

I’m just a little tiny baby fish!

Tiny baby fish.

Set me free. – Let me go.

Magical Sea Horses

Written By: Lesley Beth

Look at me – a sea horse gliding silently
Look at me – in magic gardens under the sea.

Neck and head shaped like a horse
That’s why I’m called a seahorse – of course!
With tube like snout, mouth at the tip
To suck in tiny shrimp each day
I’m a sea horse carnivore
I try to stay away
From large fish and sometimes seals
Who think I’m their prey!
And when I’m tired I use my tail
To cling to kelp and not drift away.

Look at me – a sea horse gliding effortlessly
Look at me – in kelp gardens under the sea.

If I’m not sold for medicine
Or for someone’s aquarium
My biggest threat is sad destruction
Of my sea environment.
I need you to help me save it
- lobby government
To educate, protect the sea
Pollution free for me
And all the many creatures of the sea
Who love to swim there – safe and free!

Look at that – destruction of our habitat
Look at me – I only want to live in the sea.

Into dad’s pouch mum gave her eggs
For him to keep – until I was born
Our dad gave birth to lots of us
For seahorses – that is the norm!
Armored miniatures are we
Clinging in the sea
To survive we must stay
Watchful every day!
That’s why our eyes move independently
To watch for danger or for prey.

Look at me – I’m clinging tightly in the sea
Look at me – I’m growing independently

Oceans of Wonder

Written By: Lesley Beth

Waves splashing, waves calling,
I’m swimming through,
Take me out into –
The vast ocean beauty of the world of blue.
Oceans full of wonderful creatures living free –
Down under in – a world of wonder!

People have the power,
To pollute the oceans Or to let them be.
A safe home for the creatures,
That create the beauty Underneath the sea.
Come let us make a promise let’s see it through,
Keep for me and you –
The vast ocean beauty of the world of blue.

Oceans full of wonderful creatures living free –
Down under in – a world of wonder!
People have the power,
To pollute the oceans Or to let them be.
A safe home for the creatures,
That create the beauty Underneath the sea.
People have the power,
To pollute the oceans Or to let them be.
A safe home for the creatures,
That create the beauty Underneath the sea.

The Anemone Way

The Anemone Way

Written By: Lesley Beth

I’d really like to be a Sea Anemone
Gently waving in cool turquoise sea.
Watch me gently sway
The anemone way
Gently swaying in tropical sea.

Happy little fish can come and play
As I wave and sway each day.
I’d really like to be a Sea Anemone
Gently waving in cool turquoise sea.
Watch me gently sway
The anemone way
Gently swaying in tropical sea.

Moving gardens I create
Coral and rocks I decorate.
I’d really like to be a sea Anemone
Gently waving in cool turquoise sea.
Watch me gently sway
The anemone way
Gently swaying in tropical sea.

Watch me gently sway the anemone way.

Watch me gently sway the anemone way.

Watch me gently sway the anemone way.
