Bio

Leslie grew up performing in her hometown, Columbus, Ohio. First influenced by her Dad's love of music, she accompanied him at home singing Simon and Garfunkel, John Prine, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, among others. She later joined various performance groups and performed all over the country. In 2005 Leslie completed college in Manhattan and she currently lives in Brooklyn and continues to pursue her passion for music.

In the early fall of 2005 Leslie joined up with Christopher Heinz and Fred Valdez to reinvent 'Root Valdez', previously an instrumental improvisationally-oriented group with electronic styles such as dub and drum and bass. With the addition of Leslie's ethereal vocals and lyric writing the new Root Valdez sound is reminscent of trip-hop/crossover staples such as Beth Gibbons and Beth Orton. The latest self-released EP is just the beginning of a long journey; the new material is intimate yet epic; at times cinematic and at other times dark and close. With hints of jazz, downtempo and folk, the RV sound is one that stands alone. The group currently produces music out of their own studio and performs frequently in the NYC area.

Leslie's love of finding complicated harmonies and singing with other voices, brought her to join 'Enemies of the Secret Hide-out' in the late fall, lead by songwriter and veteran engineer, David Voigt. Leslie sings harmony and plays tambourine, among other various percussion and noise instruments. The 'Enemies' enjoy playing various NY clubs, bars, and underground parties.
