Less Than Hero

Through their sweet ‘n sinister brand of guitar rock, Portland’s Less Than Hero convey humor, longing and an oddly disarming brand of angst. True to their name, the band never implies holiness, never dramatizes its messages and only occasionally pretends to know it all. The confidence is quiet and the melodies are exuberant. Far removed from the blunt throes of brat punk, LTH leans on a wry, astute brand of indie rock. They come from a place where sarcasm avoids pessimism; gloom avoids doom. A place where the narrative may scream bloody murder but the soundtrack whispers, ‘hey, it’s fake blood.’ Drawing from rock influences as revered as The Pixies, The Cure, MBV, Pavement, Stereolab, Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo; and as current as Pinback, Interpol, Arcade Fire and The New Pornographers, the four members of Less Than Hero are currently playing to local audiences and working on an EP of new material due autumn, 2006.
