With songs that seem to float like a lullabye a voice both airy and lilting, L.E. Taylor is a unique addition to the world of folk music.

Biography

Growing up in an acappella singing church, L.E. Taylor learned at an early age the power of the voice as an instrument and the beauty of harmony. Even so, she didn't know she could sing until she was 17 years old, the same year she inherited an old guitar and penned her first song. Over the years, life has honed her craft and taught her to connect more deeply to the human condition through her lyrics. With songs that seem to float like a lullabye, a voice both airy and lilting, and more recently a growing band that gives those songs an air of "grass nouveau", L.E. Taylor is a unique addition to the world of folk music.

Lyrics

Faithful and True

Written By: L.E. Taylor

Let's go to a place
That will be bursting with life
I'll be twinkle toes and you a shining
St. George nobility

We'll set a fine table
As we dine on your famous mud pie
In a fort set on a rock
But with room for some friends

And we'll laugh all the day until we defeat the dark
We will climb on the backs of all the stones rolled before us
I'll give you a feather for your feather collection
You'll use it to fly to your castle in the sky

Oh my son, I'll be faithful and true to you
Faithful and true
Because all our lives, he's been faithful and true to us
Faithful and true

I'll give my funny dance
That will bring healing somehow
And you, you're always joy
You fight the dragons of sorrow away

And we'll laugh all the day until we defeat the dark
We'll climb on the backs of all the stones rolled before us
I'll give you a feather for your feather collection
You'll use it to fly to your castle in the sky

And when the storms start to roll we will hold out our hands
Oh, the thunder will listen when the peace is much stronger
Your feathers will stand as though a crown to your head
No, it won't be easy but it's all for the glory

Oh my son, I'll be faithful and true to you
Faithful and true
Because all our lives, he's been faithful and true to us
Faithful and true

Oh Lord

Written By: L.E. Taylor

High times are gone
Now I sit alone
My prison walls block in all of my hopes
The cry inside my heart goes
Oh Lord

How did I ever reach this place?
It will ever be my shame
Before the guilt takes over me
I have yet the strength to plea
Oh Lord, oh Lord

Oh Lord
Release me from the death of me
Oh Lord
Yet death in life is birth of peace

Watching all the birds fly
But I can still reach inside
To find that freedom place
That no one can take away
No Lord, no Lord

Oh Lord
Release me from the death of me
Oh Lord
Yet death in life is birth of peace

I can feel my spirit lifted high
For hope is not placed in this life
Oh Lord, can you hear my cry?
Can you hear my cry?
Can you hear my cry?

Paper Heroes

Written By: L.E. Taylor

Can you hear me when I'm calling?
I'm shouting where are you?
But silence has become a default answer

I put my trust into these
My paper heroes
I'm always chasing after them in the wind

Looking for the satisfaction
Of different places
But blind men do not see the light nearby

Could you forgive me falter
In the same spot I did before?
Cause you'd think, I'd think, I would have learned by now

Chorus:
You see cause
They aren't on my side after all
I guess I could wait for you after all

I need a little pick me up
I need a king with broken wings
For my misplaced affections

Just sit down cause it can wait
Don't drink it down cause it can wait
Think of kittens and lollipops and Origen
Cause this will pass just like it all does

Chorus

And yet the plight sets me aright
And I can sing grace in all things
We will all be changed
In the twinkling of an eye

The Mornings

Written By: L.E. Taylor

You asked for a country drive
So I wore that dress that you said you liked
Under the mid-moon's beam
The wind through my fingers then you stopped in the street

You turned on that pretty song
I thought that I knew you but was scared I was wrong
You stepped out into the road
Invited me out then you held me so close

Then you danced with me
So beautifully
You danced with me til the end, the end

You danced with me
So beautifully
You danced with me til the end of the night

We went to that little churchyard
The fog lifted up with the rushing of my heart
When you whispered you loved me
We stood on the graves of the lovers gone before us

Then you danced with me
So beautifully
You danced with me til the end, the end

You danced with me
So beautifully
You danced with me til the end of the night.

The mornings felt different after that.

Light on the River

Written By: L.E. Taylor

The air in town felt heavy
It weighed on our chests
Our hands dirty no matter what we did
When morning came we left town behind

We went up to the mountain
We left our footprints in the mud
They followed us no matter where we went
Yet the ground held up our weary feet

Chorus:
We saw the light on the river
We knew we had to touch it
Be baptized and be found
In that holy stream

We jumped into the coolness
Felt the water rush around us
Dipped our heads underneath
And came up clean

Now we do not belong here
We’re restless wanderers
Oh, there may be toil no matter where we go
Doesn’t matter because now we know

Chorus

We rose up from the water
Like sunrise from horizon
Beginning a new day
Beginning a new day
