Bio

LEV

With his utterly unique blend of deep funk, soul and rock, Peter Levin (Lev) has become one of music’s most sought-after keyboardists. The New York-based
musician has worked with artists ranging from The Zen Tricksters to Korn, Angie Stone to Levon Helm and Vic Wooten, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Levin’s musical talents stretch beyond the keys and drums to bass, rhythm guitar, vocals, and songwriting. With his own studio in Manhattan’s Hell’s
Kitchen, Levin is also a skilled producer.

Levin has electrified the live shows of established acts including God Street Wine, The Zen Tricksters, Russel Simins (drummer for Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, John Popper (Blues Traveler), Spin Doctors and G. Love and Special Sauce. With his energetic presence and mastery of any instrument he plays, Levin brings heart, soul
and a dynamic performance to the stage.

Inside the studio, Levin brings both inventive ideas and seasoned professionalism to a recording session. His production credits include work on albums by Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, former Bad Brains guitarist Darryl Jenifer, Recently, Grammy winner Melvin Kent (Best R&B Song – “You Don’t Know My Name” by Alicia Keys) called upon
Levin’s in-demand production and keyboard skills for his new project.

There was never any question in Levin’s mind that music was going to be his life’s work. At the age of six, he began studying classical piano and stuck
with the keys through high school and college when he attended the University of Rochester/Eastern School of Music where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and English. A multi-talented musician since a young age, Levin also studied drums and percussion throughout high school and college at Drummer’s Collective in NYC, Berklee School of Music in Boston, and Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

When music – the study, the playing and the composition of it - is coursing through your veins as it does in Levin, it becomes the central focus in your life. For Levin, that has meant learning to play more than a half-dozen instruments, several kinds of music recording software and putting together his own studio.

Levin has composed for television, arranging drum and percussion parts for tracks used on promotional segments for the HBO programs Russell Simmons’
“Def Comedy Jam,” “Dennis Miller Live,” and “Real Sex,” as well as ABC’s “Sooner or Later” and “Life as We Know It.”

For the last seven years, Levin has played around New York and the tri-state area with his funk and R&B trio Lev, as the composer, keyboardist
and vocalist.

Levin is currently working on setting up his own label through which he plans to release his own music as well as the music he produces and records for other artists.

Fueled by an insatiable need to create and record music and “bring back soul sounds” to today’s music scene, Peter Levin is an asset to any artist, band, stage or studio.
