Biography
Smooth. Steady. Confident in quiet moments, never hogging the spotlight, but precise and demanding of attention when it's time to be heard. It is the rare man who can lay claim to these traits, and rarer still the musician who can bring these qualities to bear in the realm of jazz. But it's exactly those qualities that singer/ pianist/keyboardist Lex Norwood brings to the table. Combining the soul-jazz strengths of a young Joe Sample with the fluid crossover instincts of a George Duke, Norwood easily connects the dots between smooth jazz, R&B, funk, rock and even hip hop to showcase a lifetime spent studying music and honing his chops concerning all the various styles mentioned. Norwood became immersed in music at an early age, studying in high school and at Kansas University, gradually soaking up jazz influences...from Miles Davis, Ellis Marsalis, and McCoy Tyner to Keith Jarrett and Ahmad Jamal...along the way. Those influences are readily apparent in Norwood's music, which archives an understated, relaxed tone while showcasing the intuition of himself and his band...
