"Wyman Prepares To Release Her Second Album"

WYMAN PREPARES TO RELEASE HER SECOND ALBUM
LEXI WYMAN RETURNS FROM NASHVILLE RECORDING STUDIO

By Scott Wagar

Bottineau Courant

After introducing her freshman album two years ago to the music world, Lexi Wyman is on the verge of releasing her second album in the near future, which she is excited to share with everyone who enjoys music.

“I am ecstatic about getting new music out again,” Wyman said.” I’m proud of what we accomplished on my first project, but I have grown so much as a songwriter, artist and performer in these last years. So, I’m thrilled for people to hear the new music we have been working so hard on. It won’t disappoint.”

The sophomore album, which hasn’t been titled yet, is pure Lexi Wyman and her love for country music.

“I’ve lived on a farm, and have grown up listening to country music, so I will always stick pretty close to my roots,” Wyman expressed. “This EP is modern country, but a couple of the songs have a more traditional country feel, while we pushed the envelope a bit on some of the others. I feel like we have a really good variety of songs.”

In the last year, Wyman has traveled to Nashville to write songs for her up and coming album, which she did with a group of song writers.

“I would say that in the past, 95 percent of the songs I have written have been ones that I have written by myself. So, I wasn’t sure how I was going to handle being in writing groups with sometimes up to four other people, but it went so great,” Wyman explained. “Everyone worked really well together.

“I now understand why so many songwriters choose to co-write,” Wyman added. “It’s so cool to be able to bounce ideas back and forth, and sometimes come up with something you never would have been able to do on your own. I’m so proud of these songs, and every time I hear them, I fall more in love with them.”

With the songs writing finished, Wyman came home for a short time to resume her concert schedule.

She returned back to the eastern part of the nation early this year and started recording her EP in studios in Nashville and Washington, D.C.

“We did all of the tracking in Washington,” Wyman said. “Matt and Kevin Nolan, who are producing my EP, are from the D.C. area, and have recorded some of their Morrison Brothers Band music in The Buzzlounge Recording Studio; so, they were really comfortable and confident in that studio.

“And, let me tell you, they were right. That room produces such great sound,” she added.

The vocals were conducted in a Nashville studio, which also went well for Wyman.

“All I can say is we worked really hard on the vocals,” Wyman expressed. “And, I’m so happy with how they turned out.”

Wyman stated that during the recording process she was pushed to her limit in a positive way which made the EP even better than she expected.

“When I was cutting my lead vocals, a typical day in the studio would be arriving at the studio and focusing on one to two songs a day,” Wyman explained. “We wanted to get my vocals as close to perfect as they could be, while conveying the emotion for each song. Tom Maxwell, who is producing my vocals for the EP, and also co-wrote four of the five songs on the project, pushed me to my full potential.

“I hit notes that I didn’t think I would be able to hit,” Wyman added. “And, I think that’s what’s special about being in the studio with people that are not only great friends, but also believe in you and know your potential.”

There will be five songs on her new EP, which Wyman says has every inch of herself in the music.

“The recording process is not an easy one, but in my mind, it’s one of the best,” she said. “As a songwriter, every song I write I am a part of, I fall in love with, and there is a piece of me in it.

“I loved the songs the day we wrote them, but there is something special about getting in the studio and adding layers and layers to enhance the songs even more,” Wyman expressed. “They come to life, and you are able to put your vision into reality and hear what you’ve been hearing in your head.

“It’s amazing, and I couldn’t be happier with how they are sounding,” Wyman added.

When it comes to a favorite song, Wyman stated that she likes every song equally.

As the process continues on her second album, Wyman said it is going well thanks to everyone who is involved in the album.

“I have learned so much with this whole process,” Wyman said. “As with everything in life, you learn and grow from it all. I have made some lifelong friends and am so proud and thankful for everyone that has been a part of this project.

“I have become more confident in myself and have realized that you really can do anything if you put your heart and soul in it,” Wyman added. “This has been such an exciting chapter in my life and I’m grateful I am able to continue to pursue my dream.”

The EP should be out sometime this spring.

"ND Singer Debuts on Blackhawk Tour"

June 21, 2015
By Karee Magee

As a child, Lexi Wyman had country music in her blood, constantly singing and performing for family whatever song she made up on the spot, but it was a few more years before she realized her passion for songwriting.

The Newburg native, now 18, began writing songs at age seven, though she said her first official song was written for her second cousin's wedding when she was 14.

"I remember waking up that morning and thinking about it, and I wrote the song that morning," she said.

It was recording that first song, Wyman said, that set her off on a music career.

"It doesn't seem real sometimes," Wyman said. "I'll pick up [the album] and say this is me, these are songs that I wrote."

In August 2012, Wyman attended the Big Sky Songwriters Festival where she was coached and mentored by country and pop songwriters. She said the songwriters helped her write and evaluate her own songs before performing them at the end of the event.

"Just being in their presence, you learn so much just watching people," Wyman said. "I've been really lucky with the people I've had in my life. I've had great mentors along the way."

Wyman's inspiration comes from the women in country music, and even some of the men, but one of her role models was a young Taylor Swift as she started her career.

"When I was young and Taylor Swift came out and I saw that she wrote her own songs, I thought that was really cool," Wyman said. "I wanted to do that myself."

In a similar fashion, Wyman taught herself how to write songs and learned to play the guitar at age 12 with just basic lessons. Her first album, "Lexi Wyman," which was released in February, has 11 songs she wrote or co-wrote with other artists. They vary in topics, like boys, country living, and following your dreams.

"I try not to close myself off," Wyman said. "If an idea comes to me and I feel passionate about it, then I write it. I want everybody to hear it and relate to it."

Wyman also has performed in local events and concerts, including some shows at Lake Metigoshe and at the World Snowmobile Expo in West Yellowstone in March.

Her first two "official" concerts on the road with country group Blackhawk will be June 26 at the Sweet Grass Music Festival in Big Timber, Mont., and June 28 at the Minot Auditorium.

Instead of playing solo as she usually does, Wyman said she will be accompanied by the Minot band Moments Notice and a multi-instrumentalist from Rugby.

"It's a totally different dynamic," she said. "I'm looking forward to it."

"Miss Geographic Center to Open for Country Band"

June 26, 2015
Bryce Berginski - Tribune Reporter

Growing up in North Dakota helped shape a future country star.

"I love being from North Dakota and wouldn't want to call any other place the state where I grew up," said 18-year-old Lexi Wyman, of Newburg.

Wyman is slated to open for the country band Blackhawk tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. Accompanying her are multi-instrumentalist Micah Scott, of Rugby, and the Minot band Moments Notice (Tracy Godejohn, electric guitar; Alex Mente, bass; Loren Azure, drums).
Tickets cost $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and $5 discount with military ID.

Wyman said the gig came, in part, through her producer, Dave Goodwin.

"He is close with the Blackhawk guys, so I initially met them through him," Wyman said. "The Blackhawk guys (and everybody I've worked with so far) are super amazing and down-to-earth people. It's been really fun meeting so many amazing individuals."

Wyman said Blackhawk guitarist Chris Anderson was a session musician on her self-titled album, along with steel guitarist Bruce Bouton (Garth Brooks), guitarist Jim Kimball (Reba McIntyre), guitarist John Bohlinger (Lee Brice), singer Ray Scott, bassist/vocalist Jack Sundrud (Poco), singer Kim Parent (Brooks & Dunn, Christopher Cross) and fellow North Dakotan Austin Pressler.

"Just being in the presence of the amazing musicians I was working with was an experience in itself that I'll never forget," Wyman said. "Not in my wildest dreams would I have so many amazing people play on my album. My album! It's crazy to say. Just watching them and how they play and sing and what works for them or doesn't, I've learned and grown so much."

Her album is available on iTunes, CD Baby and other outlets.

"All of the songs on the album are ones I've written, so they all come from the heart," Wyman said. "When I perform, I want others to be able to relate to them as well."

For Wyman, the process for writing and recording an album began after her second appearance at the Big Sky Songwriters Festival, where she received mentoring from songwriters in country and pop music. Wyman said the process was "amazing".

"It's crazy to think of where I was before recording, and where I am now with my music," Wyman said. "My voice has gotten stronger, I've grown in my songwriting abilities, become a better guitar player and I've gained more confidence."

Wyman has written six new songs since releasing her album, and said there's a chance of new material being recorded in the future. But for now, Wyman said she and her producer are focused on summer performances and getting the album out.

"I'm very blessed and lucky to be able to do this and follow my dream," Wyman said.

Wyman has been singing and writing songs since she was seven years old. At 12, her parents gave her an electric guitar for Christmas. After playing around on it, she decided she wanted to play acoustic and got one the Christmas after. She took lessons to start out and then taught herself the rest of the way. She also plays mandolin.

Wyman played at the World Snowmobile Expo in March at West Yellowstone, and is playing today at the SweetGrass Festival in Big Timber, Mont.

Wyman was named "Miss Geographic Center" at a scholarship pageant in Rugby in August 2014, winning the talent portion of the competition with an original song called "This Country Life". One month later she had the opportunity to play in Rugby, opening for Belcourt band Hicktown at Geographical Center Days.

"The pageant was such an unexpected thing for me because I've never done pageants before, so when I was asked to participate in Rugby's I was so surprised!" Wyman said. "But for me, it was a lot about getting out of my comfort zone, which I think is a good thing for everybody to do sometimes."

Wyman competed in the 2015 Miss North Dakota pageant, in which she was recognized for highest grade point average as well as best talent/non-finalist.

"Growing in the Country Music Industry"

June 28, 2015
By: Scott Wagar

Lexi Wyman will be the opening act for Blackhawk in Minot. The Courant recently sat down with Lexi for a story about the excitement taking place in her music career. Here is the story:

Growing in the Country Music Industry
Lexi Wyman has a debut album out and will be opening for Blackhawk this month in Minot

When it comes to Lexi Wyman of Newburg, world renowned singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Chris Anderson is a fan of Wyman’s music.
Anderson, who performs for such groups as the Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Bad Company, Hank Williams Jr. and many more artists just added Wyman to the list of country singers he has played with on their albums and stated that Wyman has something special with her music talent.
“The way Lexi strikes me with her song writing and singing ability is that she has really developed a lot since I first found out about her,” Anderson said Friday evening to the Courant through a phone call in New York City while getting ready to perform with the Outlaws at the B.B. King Blues Club on West 42nd Street. “She is a natural and the music she has on her record is really honest; and, that’s how she strikes me, she is a really young Tylor Swift and that sort of thing where she is writing about real life experiences and not getting close to any one else. Lexi isn’t like I should write like so and so, and I should sound like so and so, she is pretty much original in her ability to write, sing and play.”
That’s a lot for Anderson to say about Wyman when you consider she is only 17 years-old and just graduated from Newburg High School on May 24. But, when an artist like Wyman has a gift like she does in music it shows and it can’t be denied.
Wyman might have a talent with singing, song writing and playing, but it hasn’t been an easy road either for the young lady. She has been writing songs since she was a child, and spent her teenager years attending song writing workshops, placing her complete heart into becoming a professional performer.
“I have been singing and writing songs for as long as I can remember. I remember writing my very first song when I was seven and I still have it on a piece of paper,” Wyman said. “I really got serious about writing when I was about 14 and started attending song writer festivals in Big Sky where I met more people in the business. I’ve been doing that ever since and just growing.”
She recently completed her first and self-titled album, “Lexi Wyman” where she has 11 original songs she wrote for the CD and where she has a list of country artists playing and singing on the record with Wyman that most performers wish they could get their hands on.
“I have some amazing, amazing people on the album,” Wyman said. “I have been very lucky.”
The question is where does one start when speaking about the artists who lent a hand on Wyman’s record. There is Anderson on guitar; Bruce Bolton who brought his pedal steel and dobro to the studio and is currently touring with Garth Brooks; Jim Kimball played guitar and high string and tours with Reba McEntire; John Bohlinger came with his guitar to the sound studio and he plays for Lee Brice; Kim Parent sang background vocals on the album and spends her days singing with Brooks and Dunn, Christopher Cross and at the Grand Ol Opry; and, Jack Sundrud who does background vocals for Poco and Great Plains also granted his voice on the LP along with Austin Presler, who, like Wyman, calls North Dakota home.
Dave Goodwin, who is also a well known name in the country music industry, produced Wyman debut album and he brought together what he calls the “A List” of performers to the studio for Wyman. However, his biggest score when it came to artists was Ray Scott, who sang with Wyman in the song, “A Drink for Two,” which was written by Wyman and Goodwin.
The majority of the album was produced in Bozeman, Mont, which is the state where Goodwin calls home, but part of the recording took place in Nashville, too, which was a great experience for Wyman. “It’s been very exciting,” she said.
With the recording of the LP, and getting to know Anderson, who also plays guitar for Blackhawk, the country group was also able to hear Wyman sing, and through the experience gave Wyman the opportunity to be the opening act for Blackhawk when they come to perform in Minot on June 28.
“She is an up and coming talent and I thought she would be a good opening act for the guys,” Anderson said. “After the rest of the guys became acquainted with Lexi they agreed and we are happy to have her. Hopefully, Lexi will win over her own fans in the process.”
Wyman, who is down to earth, is like any other typical North Dakota teenager.
“Lexi enjoys academics, sports, outside activities, singing in her church and spending time with her family and friends,” Goodwin said. "She hopes to be able to make a living singing and songwriting, and it is her ambition to be able to travel around the world and share her songs with all people.”
Ambition is the primary word here because Wyman is a person who stays focused. She was planning to attend college in Nashville this fall, but with things working out in her singing career, she has decided to forgo college at the moment and get involved with the country music industry to see if she can make her dream come true.
“I’m just going to get out there and go with the flow,” Wyman said. “And hopefully it will all work out.”
For now, Wyman wants to focus on her first love, music.
“There is so much I love about music,” Wyman said. “I just love how personal it is and how people can take the songs different ways and mold that into their own experiences with what they gone through in life. It is so touching and I love songs that people can relate to. I love it, I just absolutely love music.”

"Wyman to Open for Blackhawk"

Lexi Wyman will be the opening act for the country group Blackhawk on Saturday evening in front of the grandstand
By Scott Wagar

When Blackhawk takes the stage during the 127th Bottineau County Fair this weekend a local singer will take the stage before them warming up the audience in what is expected to be a large crowd for the Blackhawk concert.
Newburg native, Lexi Wyman, is the opening act for Blackhawk and she will be performing on Saturday evening (June 18) with songs from her self-title debut album, some covers and perhaps some new songs she is producing for her future sophomore LP.
Being on the stage this Saturday evening is going to be a special moment for Wyman, because just a few years back as a young teenage girl she stepped on the fair’s stage for the very first time in her life to perform in its talent show. It is a moment she has never forgotten.
“I had no idea at that point that I would be able to do this for a career. I knew that I loved singing and performing, and I had the dream of being a professional artist in my head, but I couldn’t imagine the possibilities and people I would meet in only a couple of years,” Wyman said. “I remember being a little nervous and anxious before I took the stage, but mostly excitement, which is how I still get today. I just couldn’t wait to get on stage and be able to share my passion with everyone else.”
Wyman’s professional career as a country singer has seen some great success after being out of high school for only a year.
“It has been a great year, Wyman expressed. “I have been busy doing shows throughout the year and rehearsing with my band and getting ready for the summer dates coming up and really looking forward to just performing.”
In that time, Wyman debuted her freshman album, opened for Blackhawk in Minot, toured with the Morrison Brothers Band; and performed with the fame guitarist Chris Anderson who has played with Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Outlaws and many more bands; and, who will be making a guest appearance with Wyman on Saturday evening and also playing with Blackhawk during their set.
Outside of Blackhawk, Wyman will be playing some concert dates, festivals and be the opening act for Travis Tritt when he performs during the Midsummer Nights Jam in Velva on July 9.
Her new band, the Lexi Wyman Band, consists of Isaiah and Eli Roise out of Minot, and Dallas Wood of Newburg. The band will be touring around North Dakota and hoping to venture out to Montana, Minnesota and South Dakota in the future.
When her touring season comes to an end late this fall, Wyman is heading off to Nashville to write music and meet up with some friends and other professional musicians. Although it is not a permanent move to the country music capital, she will be heading back to North Dakota.
“I to want to stay in North Dakota and work in the Midwest and just build a really great and close fan base here,” Wyman said. “And then, eventually moving down to Nashville.”
For now, Wyman is just enjoying the moment.
“It is kind of crazy to think that I am doing this as a career,” Wyman expressed. “I’m just trying to take it all in.”
Wyman will take the stage at the Bottineau County Fair at 7 p.m. with Blackhawk starting at 7:30 p.m. - Bottineau Courant

"Planet Country News"

By Gianluca Sitta
Lexi's debut album is mentioned in a popular Italian blog featuring Country and Americana music. Gianluca Sitta of planetcountry.it describes Lexi's sound as country-pop similar to Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood but with lyrics that are pure country (translated from the Italian). Her debut is listed with new releases and news from the likes of Dwight Yoakam, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, Lee Ann Rimes, and so many other Country greats with new music coming out over the coming months!

In Italian:

Molto gradevole anche il debut album di Lexi Wyman, giovane interprete che viene dal North Dakota. Ovviamente il sound è molto country pop a la Taylor Swift, o Carrie Underwood ma i testi sono davvero country. A questo proposito basta ascoltare This Country Life, Gravel Dust e A Cowboy.

Translated to English:

Very pleasant also is the debut album from Lexi Wyman , young performer who comes from North Dakota . Obviously the sound is very country- such as a Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood , but the lyrics are pure country . Suffice is to listen to This Country Life, Gravel Dust and A Cowboy. - Planet County News

"Lexi Wyman in Nashville"

Growing up and listening to musical artists like Sheryl Crow and Faith Hill has inspired one North Dakota talent to venture out and find her own way in the country music world. Westhope’s Lexi Wyman is taking a break from Nashville.

Born and raised in North Dakota in a small town, with big-city dreams, Lexi Wyman left her home for the country music capital of america.

“I’ve grown up in a small town in North Dakota, which I love, and gravel roads. Going from this to the big city of Nashville was a huge change,” said Lexi Wyman, Musician.

This last month, Wyman teamed up with Indak Media to showcase Minot in her latest song, “Until I don’t”

“We really wanted to come together and do something really cool for the song and I’m just really proud on how it all turned out,” said Wyman.

From dirt roads to city traffic, Wyman’s passion for music is deep rooted and it’s the same where ever she goes.

“I honestly believe that it doesn’t matter where you grew up, where you were born, if you weren’t born into a big city or a small town like I was. If you have the passion for something, I really believe that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to,” Wyman added.

While North Dakota is no longer home for Wyman, she still shares her North Dakota spirit in her new location.

“I think it’s a very powerful thing that she continues to advocate for the state..even when she’s in Nashville,” said Matthew Maldonado, Indak Media.

“She talks about North Dakota all the time. Being North Dakota nice and sharing that with the people in Nashville. I just think it’s amazing that she continues that trend and representing the state,” Maldonado added.

A transformation from a small town girl to opening up for big country names like Josh Turner, Lexi Wyman’s story started in North Dakota. - KX News

Lexi Wyman is an authentic, All-American country girl who lives to perform and share her love of music with the world. Whether it is in front of huge crowds opening for the likes of Easton Corbin, Josh Turner, Montgomery Gentry or Kenny Rogers, or for intimate crowds in theaters, clubs or at the family’s campfire, Lexi puts every bit of emotion she has into her performance. She is truly about making a connection with people through her music.

It’s hard to imagine anyone growing up more genuinely country than Lexi.  She grew up on the family farm outside of the “big” town of Newburg, ND (population 114). The oldest of 3 siblings, Lexi has always been the entertainer. As soon as she could walk and talk, she was putting on shows for the whole family. With the TV continuously on CMT or GAC, her shows immediately leaned into country music.  At the age of 7, Lexi began writing her own songs, and when she picked up the guitar at age 12, the path of writing her own music and sharing this music was clear.

Lexi mastered her craft by attending the Big Sky Songwriters Festival in 2012, where she was mentored by some of the biggest songwriters in Country and Pop music. After two years of successful tours and performances, in 2017, Lexi and her band were named Favorite Country Band at the North Dakota Music Awards. Jumping off from this win, Lexi released a 5-song EP, My Favorite Shade, with fan favorite “Lipstick”. In 2019, she released her new single “Until I Don’t”, written with Jon Mabe (“The Climb” Miley Cyrus) and Wildee.

In just a few short years, Lexi has grown as a songwriter and performer, and this All-American Country girl is ready to share her music with the world.
