It may have taken 20 years but LIANNA ROSE has come up with an album that defines who she is as a songwriter and a singer. This remarkable effort is laced with great lyrics, catchy melodies and a brightness that calls out “here is a world class act!” MATT FELL’s production and the musicians bring out the best in Lianna’s songs and that in turn brings us a confident, contemporary country singer with some remarkable songs. The standout track for me is Smoking Gun, but also up there are I Am The Song, Jack, I Still Cry, New Guitar, Angels and the tongue in cheek I Want My Tractor Back. There’s a strong feeling for country music wrought around some strident rock riffs and the feeling is always one of a genuine talent having been given her head and thankfully Lianna has come up with the goods. This is worth searching out and could it be my album of the year?

This is probably the best debut album by an Australian Female Country Artist since Kasey Chambers ‘The Captain” a decade ago. Lianna Rose is cute and confident, but not cheesy, And, best of all, her songs are good, reminding me of Shawn Colvin.
A highlight is “I want my Tractor back, destined to become a country classic. It’s the tale of Mary and Bill, they break up, and Mary takes the tractor. It’s great stuff. Soak up the world is country enough for traditional fans, but “cool” enough to gather some contemporary city fans.
