Liber Teran

Leaving behind indispensable ingredients at the time of bring it on with the ”taconazo norteño” Teran offer his solo debut without strip down his afro-caribean past, adding some rock pop touches and some charmless ballad.

The best moments happen when Liber become a countryside man, like it happens on ”Don’t have to .be” song. To increase this history with more polemic you can listen to his versions of “Should i stay or should i go” (The clash) and ”El .andariego” from Alvaro Carrillo.

Liber Teran .said: ”El Gitano Western” its my first solo album, after 15 years of being front man on “Los de abajo” band. This album its a seek through “musica norteña”,where i collect all my country and western influence, but with a rockandroll taste, blended with balcanic music from the Europe southeast.

The piece “Don’t have to be” came from the new stage of the ex-vocal and founder of Mexican band “Los de abajo”, and that song look to come very well for the moment, by the way.

“Los de Abajo” with his cumbia-ska-reggae-electronic fusion, had reach a big popularity , specially in the circuit known as “world music” over Europe. The band created over 1992, made their two first albums under the David Byrnes “Luaka Bop” record label.

In 2003 they won the BBC World music award for the Americas with “Cybertropic chilango power”

Then Liber Teran leave behind the well done road, the well known road and throw himself , as he sing on “Antiheroe” to look forward and explore with a new propose.

Since 15 years he is a guitarist, composing, founder and singer from the world music band “Los de abajo” . His training as a musician is basically self-taught. Over the year of 1998 the band edit their first homonymous album, from them they developed 14 tours round Europe and had performances all over the principal festivales in that contintent, such as Glastonbury (England), Roskilde (Denmark) and Gutern (Swetzerland) as well in Mexico´s Vive latino festival. They closed the WOMAD, festival organized by singer Peter Gabriel, in Reading, England and performed in the prestige ”Later with Jools Holland show”

With all this foundation and broad experience Liber Teran its now working on his solo proyect, under his own name.

Former lead singer and founder from “Los de abajo”… Liber Teran. starts a new trip…

Liber why the “Gitano western”? I´ve always feel this great passion for “musica norteña”. This because all the family by the side of my father are from Durango and Sinaloa, Mexico. I grew up listening to classic rock and roll, from the Beatles to the rolling stones to Chuck Berry.

When I discovered “El Piporro” (big icon on Mexican culture) I realize that it could be possible a fusion between “musica norteña” and rockandroll, creating a strong Mexican rock identity. When I went on tour with “Los de abajo” I discover the power of gipsy music, specially balcanic like Goran Bregovic and Taraf De Haiduks, this artist create a big influence on me and a see a great connexion between gipsy and “musica norteña”, and to create by my self this alter-ego named “El gitano western” become very suitable. - ROLLING STONE.
