Bio
Liège is a singer, songwriter and performer from Belém do Pará, in the north of Brazil. A culturally rich and diverse region, where music is very present, making her an example of this beauty and diversity.
Her songs are a mix of Amazonian rhythms and the contemporary Brazilian popular music. Her lyrics talk about social problems, gender questions, break of aesthetic concepts and feminism, without losing a melodic and literal sense of humor.
For Liège, music is in her blood. Her grandfather was precursor in the installation of radios-cipó (loudspeakers in light poles with radio stations) located at inner cities around Belém. Her grandmother, who has 91 years nowadays, still plays many instruments. Her brother is also a singer and her uncle, Hugo Lisboa, was a writer, poet, musician and songwriter, having worked with the famous Brazilian band “Demônios da Garoa”.
Inside this universe, Liège has grown up. In her childhood, she was at a drama club and started to sing. As a teenager was discovered by Rui Paiva, drummer of “Álibi de Orfeu”, a renamed band from Belém, who started to take her to sing at bars and music night clubs in the city.
She plays guitar and writes songs since she was 11, but her work as a professional songwriter was started only in 2013 wither song “Toute la Vie”, a coworking with the northern musician and producer Dan Bordallo.
Writing and singing in Portuguese, English and French, Liège’s musical influence comes from artists like Ben L´Oncle Soul, Ibeyi, Zaz, Alicia Keys, Etta James, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Milton Nascimento, Lenine, Paulinho Moska, Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Céu and Tulipa Ruiz.
Mixing is the great brand of Liège’s work. She blends her music with many others artistic languages like fashion, photography, theater and audiovisuals.
In 2014, Liège did a short season of concerts in Belém, honoring the Brazilian singer Marisa Monte and participated as an invited artist in two festivals of French music.
In 2015, she did a great concert at Se Rasgum Festival, an Amazonian festival, performing beside Moraes Moreira and the Canadian Mac Demarco.
In 2016, Liège released her first EP named “Filho de Gal” performing it in many local concerts. Liège also participated of some concerts of national artists like Tiê, Johnny Hooker and worked as presenter of Anavitoria’s concert. In this same year, Liège promoted her own musical event, named Liège Sem Crivo, in a big reunion of many local musicians, bands and artists from all the artistic languages.
In 2017, Liège was invited to perform at the MPB Festival beside great names of Brazilian music like Simoninha, Max d'Catro and Gal Costa.
