Bio

South African born singer/songwriter Liesl Field has grown up with a love for singing and an appreciation for all styles of music. The experience of social rejection in her childhood in apartheid South Africa and the adjustments of a move to Australia with her family when she was nine, laid a fertile foundation for emotive songwriting. Stylistically her music has been compared to Kylie Minogue, Natasha Bedingfield and Lady Gaga. Her lyrics touch on a wide range of themes and emotions, of which, most teenage girls can relate to.

Liesl is completing her album titled ‘Finding Me’, which has a very current, pop, electronic sound with a depth to its lyrical content. Liesl has been performing and speaking to teenage girls in both Australia and Europe and will be in the USA for the second half of 2009. On a recent tour in Czech Republic, she played to girls in a teenage psychiatric ward and made a profound impact on her audience. Even though what she sang was not in their language, they commented through an interpreter that they ‘felt the emotions of the songs and could relate to what Liesl was trying to communicate through her music’.

Liesl has been writing songs and books aimed at girls facing the adjustments and issues encountered in adolescence. The song ‘Plastic Pictures’ focuses on girls finding value and worth in themselves in a body-conscious society. “Real beauty is a state of mind not an image. Every girl needs to know who she is, what she’s worth and why she’s here” says Liesl.

As a singer, motivational speaker and emerging author, Liesl targets those issues that teenage girls struggle with including body image, relationships, friendships, peer pressure, making good life-choices and living with purpose. Her goal is to be an instrument in unlocking the hidden treasures that are inside every young girl’s mind.
