"Grass Shack Records - Recording Engineer Comments"

LifeinPursuit is Chase and Carl Kauhane, and Ryan Higgins. They are young men who grew up on the northwest coast of the Island of Hawaii, and have been playing and writing music since their early childhood.
They came to Grass Shack Records a little over a year ago, sat down and played informally most of the songs on their proposed album, New Horizons. I was impressed. Their song subjects, mature arrangements, sophisicated lyrics, their playfulness, and intelligent use of dynamics and compelling vocals resulted in songs that are engaging, refreshing and timeless.
It was a complete joy to work with Ryan, Chase and Carl. I always looked forward to our studio sessions which were always full of fun and creativity.
They have continued to write, and I have heard a number of fresh new songs , so if you find them as compelling as I, you'll be happy to know a second CD is in the birthing.

"The Garden Island Newspaper"

Last year, an up and coming Hawaii band caught the eye of a London music executive.
The group Lifeinpursuit, comprised of Ryan Higgins and Chase and Carl Kauhane played an original song, “Sister Song,” the first night of the conference and it was instantly recognizable.
“We’re very lucky. The conference helped us out and now we’re working with a publisher. The first night it was open mic night and we weren’t expecting anything,” said lead singer Chase Kauhane. But lightning struck and a producer is now pitching an acoustic version of their song, recorded at a studio in Waimea. The group also won the songwriting contest at the event. The prize was a concert performance in Los Angeles where band member Ryan Higgins said they made other valuable networking connections.
“It happened fast,” Higgens said. “Then our album, “Nickel and Dimin’ It,” was nominated for a Na Hoku award in the alternative category. Other songwriters have made promising connections at previous Kauai Music Festival conferences. - The Garden Island Newspaper

Bio

The idea behind LifeinPursuit is one of constantly striving for a greater purpose, both in their lives and their music. Playing music has always been a natural pastime for the three-piece group hailing from The Big Island's Hamakua Coast. Brothers Chase and Carl Kauhane and longtime friend Ryan Higgins grew up together, and in 2009, after jamming at friend's houses and playing in church, decided to become a band officially. Since that time, they have been molding and shaping the sound that they have now come to possess. In 2013 Their song 'Sister Song' won best song at the Kauai Music Fest Songwriting competition and garnered the attention of renowned producer Rupert Hine. This was followed by a trip to LA the following year playing at BMI's 'Songwriters in The Rounds'. In 2014 the band's album 'Nickel & Dimin' It' was nominated for a Na Hoku Hanohano award.

LIP's music is best described as laid-back, rhythm-based acoustic rock with tinges of hip-hop, reggae, & blues. LIP plays mostly originals, with lyrics ranging from complex and deep-thinking to simple and playful. All three band members contribute to the songwriting process, whichs creates a unique atmosphere of verbage.

The group continues to gig at local music venues on The Big Island and neighbor Islands. They have two albums out: 'New Horizons' is their 1st album and contains a mix of mostly-acoustic originals that are both thought-provoking and fun. Their sophomore release-"Nickel & Dimin' It" (sold here)-takes on a heavier edge, with the addition of piano and distorted guitar, plus blues & rap elements. The result is a much more mature, refined album that shows the growth that has taken place in the band's members lives and writing.

LIP is currently recording it's next single, 'What I've Learned', and is working on putting together another album in the near future.
