Bio
From the jungles of South East Asia to the desert of Southern California, Life Leone
has gleaned from his extensive travels a sound of classic exploration, familiarly
expansive yet utterly unique. Tinged with desert rock, Life’s music is a direct
embodiment of his own transcontinental journey, rooted in straightforward rock
and roll. But that classic tradition should come as no surprise, considering Life’s first
guitar lesson came from a Kink.
Life Leone’s story starts in Laos, where the spiritual stallion was born while his
parents were stationed there on a volunteer mission. A distinctive birthplace
without doubt, the family uprooted themselves to raise Life in the desert community
of Joshua Tree, California. It’s here that the rebellious teenager happened to meet
Nicky Hopkins, legendary guitarist for The Kinks, who taught Life the basics needed
to peak his interest music. Mastering a few licks later, there was no turning back: he
was hooked on rock and roll.
Widening his influences but honing in his craft, Life was quickly drawn to punk,
grunge, and garage rock. Before long, he was playing with influential locals acts in
and around the Coachella Valley; at 17 he was touring with desert-rock pioneers Slo
Burn. Then, after a move to L.A., he fronted the anthemic indie-rock outfit The Ross
Sea Party, painstakingly recording and touring to achieve his artistic vision.
Yet in a cathartic wave of introspection and driven passion, Life Leone reinvented
himself yet again, moving to Vietnam to work as a guitar craftsman. This eastern
influence led to a furious drive of creativity, with Life writing new material
vigorously. There was no denying his work’s desert origins, even in the far east.
Hence, Leone once more circled back home to California to complete a truly
remarkable full LP.
Life Leone began to perfect his sound: tight chords, sharp tones, and raw, magnetic
energy permeating. Straightforward drums and deliciously fuzzed out guitars
layered with catchy, acerbic vocals. Life rounds out a classic garage rock sound
with approachability, stripping away any nonsensical frills that cause pointless
distraction.
No, instead Life Leone gives you well thought out rock and roll. Brilliantly structured
with masterful hooks, his debut album Comes Crashing In was released on vinyl this
past July to high critical acclaim. Now, Life Leone is prepping a west coast tour to
showcase his unquestionable talent, pairing it with a ethereal light show and stage
performance. And thus continues this esteemed musician’s ongoing journey.
